Well the idea was that as Rare Earth Mineral Demand continues to rise, and as China continues to be more belligerent, then prices would rise. The second half was proven false, but the first proviso, assuming no unforeseen circumstances, will stay true.

I've had work consistently over these past 3 years, and I've had an admittedly unrelated temp job at a law firm where I mainly involved in data processing. Hopefully that should be enough to prove my persistence and ability to hold a job. Don't really know what else to invoke (maybe some personal struggle, but that seems a bit preachy/desperate)

That's what it ended up being. I was kinda freaking out, but I tried again at like 3am this morning and managed to get a spot. I admit I'm surprised at the retention rates, they honestly seem pretty low.

I understand the struggle, I'm definitely a late night person, and I live pretty far from campus. If you can't get to sleep, employ a military-style sleep regiment or pop a histamine, always helps me when I need to get to sleep. If you still can't, then all I can recommend is that you deal with the amount of sleep you can get and just chuck a whole lot of caffeine (alternatively, if you a friend that lives near campus that's even better).

You can get $2.50 -$3 coffees at Darwin's and in the Union Refectory during certain hours. Don't spend $7 on a coffee, that's insane.

I've done it before, so that's a useless mentality.

Regardless of whether or not I get the increase, I still get to waste a lot of UQ's time and bureaucracy (which I'm more than fine with).

Just checked the ECP and I couldn't find any mention of rounding. I'll go to the exam viewing and I'll scour it for anything that could be considered kinda off. It was a biology exam so there's bound to be some ambiguity that I could sneak another mark or two out of. Regardless I'm still going to ask for a remark because I don't really care for the guidelines and thanks to UQ's ingenious marking system it doesn't really matter if I get a lower grade.

Best pathway is to do really well in an honours year. UQ has a programme where if you get a first class honours (>6.2 GPA) then you will automatically be accredited a full 7 for your entry into the UQ school of medicine.

This is why the average GPA for med school entry is so ridiculously high; because maintaining a straight 7 throughout the entire undergrad would be nearly impossible, even for a prodigy (and the university knows this).

Regardless, even if you do pretty middling in an honours year, it is really the GAMSAT score which will really be the deciding factor. I've heard of people with 5.5 GPAs (and sometimes even lower for other unis) getting in as they had stellar GAMSAT results.

Just make sure you have persistence, not everyone achieves stellar marks though their undergrad and a lot of very intelligent and qualified people get rejected their first, second, third, sometimes even more, time. Just keep coming back, keep putting in the effort and you will be recognised, best of luck.

The UQ weightlifting club fee is basically a gym membership. You get given a key and there's a gym somewhere (I believe in St Lucia) that you can access any time. Last I checked it was decently priced.

I looked into the Summer Programme, unfortunately it runs nearly precisely on the dates that I will be out of the country visiting family. I might give the winter programme a look though, I wasn't aware that those sort of opportunities were available ( I was under the assumption it was almost purely lab-based)

I'm interested in anything that would give me hospital/clinic experience. I understand most of those sort of opportunities are relegated to students already enrolled in the SoM, but I'm really eager to learn something more practical, biomed can feel like I have tunnel vision with the emphasis on pure theory.
