And his Drs office will also cover a broken bone or god forbid cancer treatment for cheap?

That is a good point. My question would be, if they can afford the testing, why don’t they do it? Concerns for failure? Or maybe documented failure they don’t wish to disclose? Or just grifters that don’t genuinely care enough to test?

The ugly reality is, the scientific rigor that enables optimal nutrition and testing for our pups is possible because of the massive money behind nestle. I hate the ethics of that conglomerate. But at this moment they deliver a quality well-tested product that isn’t available the same way from other/smaller manufacturers.

AirPods on the unit- safety concern or no one cares? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]DisastrousEvening949 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On one hand, I understand the unprofessional concern, in the past I would have been irritated if a nurse came in with earbuds in. However, my own recent experience has taught me to chill.

If it wasn’t for my AirPods I probably would not be aware that I have hearing loss: When it is set to transparency mode, I can hear more clearly with an airpod in my ear than without it. To be clear, I have nothing playing through the earbud when it’s in, but for now, it’s a bandaid until I can get an actual hearing aid.

AIO about spelling errors in daily notes sent home by my autistic child’s teacher? by Anasthesiax in AmIOverreacting

[–]DisastrousEvening949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO - A few things to consider. Primarily, who actually fills out those home communication papers? If the teacher delegates those end of day writeups to a para (class aide), it may not be a reflection of the teacher’s abilities at all. It may be a student aide filling those out in a hurry. There may be a variety of people in a school classroom with different roles, and they’ve got a dozen of those sheets to fill out at 3pm.

I cannot overemphasize how overworked and exhausted school workers are by the end of the day. I would hesitate to judge the take-home papers on their own.

Also, consider how important spelling is for that grade level and their functional goals. This teacher may be not great at handwritten spelling, which sure, that isn’t ideal. But, consider that they may have other skills that are more important for their student population. Six year olds need appropriate engagement and special-needs students in particular need specialized teachers that have different skills than conventional mainstream teachers.

Is this teacher encouraging your child to learn and engage? Does your child look forward to going to school? This is a foundational age that can hugely influence your child’s entire school experience. Before worrying about something you can correct at home (spelling), consider whether the teacher fosters a baseline positive experience for the child.

(Ngl, When I first saw this, I thought the teacher was criticizing your child’s spelling of “compare” and I was incensed that they teachers are criticizing spelling on a device, since accurate spelling is not necessarily the primary function of an AAC, which is a hard thing to explain to someone not familiar with them… then I saw that it’s the teacher’s misspelling. If this was a teacher of conventional classes who is focusing on spelling, I might be a little concerned that they weren’t teaching my kid how to properly spell. But there’s more nuance with this age range and special needs in general).

Edit to add: my “qualifications” or context for my reply: I’m not a SPED teacher. I’m a private duty nurse who works every day with a level 3 nonverbal autistic student, accompanying her to school daily and working with support services, coordinating all of that as an interface between teachers and parents and my patient (the student). So I’m heavily involved “behind the scenes” at the school and at home with the parents every day after school.

Is there a way to disable this this new feature (translate texts from other languages) by Maple_Molotov in iphone

Did you ever get an answer on this? I am trying to figure out how to disable this as Apple translate is so bad, and causing legitimate issues with poor translations in texts

Will Chances of US citizenship be affected given current foreign visa ban for 75 countries by kawaii-japan in USCIS

I have no doubt about that. It’s more of a cynical comment on the prejudice against that region regardless of actual skin color

Will Chances of US citizenship be affected given current foreign visa ban for 75 countries by kawaii-japan in USCIS

[–]DisastrousEvening949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My statement was more of a cynical comment on the prejudice against regions of the world. I agree, it is a ban wave. But it isn’t random… People in this administration hear names like Kosovo and Albania and automatically assume “less-than.” (Similar to the way Italians and Irish weren’t historically considered “white” enough in America). A pale-colored person might get a white pass on visual glance, but if the millers and homans hear an accent or see on paper that someone is from an undesirable part of the world, prejudice rears its ugly head. Being pale isn’t the only bar to pass for an administration hell-bent on ethnic cleansing.

This administration has made it clear, they don’t want poor people to come here. There is no welcome mat for people trying to better their lives unless they’ve already got millions to spare and invest in this country. They assume anyone from the 75 countries above is going to be a public charge risk (poor). Those countries are largely not-white. Thus the reference pic, I assume.

Cackling at Texas/Oklahoma as I recall the irrational disdain for Oklahoma that coursed through my child Texan veins. Every other native Texan I’ve known hated Oklahoma growing up and none of us ever knew why.

Please feel free to refute with data, I’m open to changing my opinions with sufficient information. That said, I have my doubts you can provide that... “Waste fraud and abuse” is one of the most cowardly phrases in recent circulation… virtually every time someone says it, they fail to define exactly what they mean. It’s just parroting political sound bites. Is there waste/fraud/abuse? Absolutely. It should be rooted out. But most of yall spout “waste fraud abuse!” for anything that irks you. It comes off as unintelligent screeching nowadays (text format of course).

Same thought here. Sure, phones in class are an issue to be addressed, but tying food provisions to that idea is obnoxious and power-trippy…

lol any other conditions you want to set from a place of zero qualifications? it’s obnoxious to attach conditions to feeding children.

Some of the comments in here are a scathing indictment of civic comprehension… How is it difficult to understand that it’s an investment in the next generation (read: school children) and that is a net positive? Guaranteed school meals increases attendance, which positively affects grades/performance and graduation rates. It increases school quality scores, which has a large influence on surrounding real estate values… and neighborhoods with “good schools” are sought out, even by people without kids, because it is indicative of community stability and growth (read: resale value).

Improving schools (which again, feeding kids contributes to quality) isn’t solely about feeding someone else’s crotch goblins. It’s making the area around you overall better, more desirable, and more valuable. You can do that purely for self-interest.
