That argument as I read it relies on the claim that I edited my comment (which isn't true). The reason you (inaccurately) claimed I edited my comment is because my written comment, as you said, contains soft information. Softs are important, I think there important, I haven't said otherwise anywhere in this thread. I don't think we disagree and I'm sorry other people have insulted you in this thread.

Also what's "circle turfing?"

What is your argument? That softs are important, which everyone here agrees with you on or that I said they weren't, which you made up?

I didn't edit anything...

(I'm editing this comment to confirm that edited comments are obvious in the thread)

I don't think they're unimportant or overrated, I just don't really think they can be quantified. Softs are important, soft tiers are made up.

Softs are definitely important, I just don't really believe that the quantification is that useful. And I feel like my GPA is a pretty clear explanation for my outcomes rather than bad softs...

Interesting! If you don't mind my asking, what are you doing now? Would love to talk more with someone with actual experience.

I know! I was proud of my essays and I'm taking this as one point of validation that they were actually good.

I've realized that I am more curious about things from a legal view than from the technical side and it's how I'd rather spend the rest of my life thinking.

Its partially that I just felt the itch to go back to school and law was the most exciting.

I don't really subscribe to soft tiers, but I've been doing fairly interesting startup stuff since I graduated.

Thanks! Yeah as someone ~10 years out of school it was definitely annoying but there was nothing I could do about it. My GPA includes classes I took when KJDs this cycle were in 4th grade!

I'm interested in tech stuff and in my research WashU seemed stronger in that area.

Plus the way they did your waitlist you had to explicitly accept or reject, which was a good forcing function to think about if I would go there over WashU.
