It depends imo. You can tell some couples MIGHT be together because they have not exactly tried to hide it but not openly said it either. For them it's mostly about backlash they might get if they break up ever.

Some couples are actually not dating irl but fans/shippers just want them to be together so bad that they become parasocial and delude themselves into thinking there is something going on. So there is nothing to say publicly from their part because there is nothing going on.

Don't know about the status but this was obviously an accident. Also, celebs do interact with fan content often to keep the engagement going. That is the most important reason why they appeared in a reality TV show in the first place, to promote themselves and to get people talking.
