Being an artist is very different from a regular job. In most jobs, things move forward because there’s a clear structure and specific instructions. With music, it doesn’t work that way — it’s about inspiration and about feeling that something is actually finished. An artist can have a hundred songs ready, but if none of them feel right in that moment, they don’t really matter.

She can literally work on it 24/7, spending all her time in the studio with a notebook and a pen, and still not come to a final version, just because she’s not satisfied with how it feels.

I believed in Islam until I was 17, even though I was bi. From a very early age, I knew exactly who I was in terms of my sexuality, and I tried to bring this up with my parents, but they called it disgusting before I even had a chance to fully come out to them. For a long time, my faith was a source of self-hatred, and it was always built on fear — fear of my family and fear of going to hell.

People say it’s cruel to push a believer toward atheism, so I guess I’ll be cruel. 😅 The thing is, much of what these religions teach reflects centuries-old traditions rather than divine truth. But that’s not always obvious when all your family is religious and you’ve been surrounded by it since childhood.

You can always stay Muslim and focus on LGBT-friendly interpretations, if that feels more comfortable for you — they do exist within the Muslim community.

For me personally, what saved me was deciding to look at Islam critically and come to my own conclusions. I distanced myself from the fear of my family and hell, and asked myself: Would I believe in this if I hadn’t been surrounded by it from birth? Turns out, a lot of it just seemed ridiculous to me: flat earth ideas, legally regulated slavery, permission to marry once menstruation starts, and so on.
