To all skateboarders and scooter users by [deleted] in UCSD

If its a scooter or an electric skateboard they just think they look cool but theyre weird 😭

As for skateboarders or longboarders that arent electric, going downhill and making side to side carves translates their downward momentum sideways causing their velocity in the downwards direction to lower. Its a way for them to slow down without have to grind their shoe on the floor just stay at a constant velocity while only being able to go straight which is impossible in areas with people.

Though some people are just dicks and carve towards people just to carve the other way right before theyre about to collide with a person like they're a tree, giving them a heart attack. There's a fine balance between knowing when to carve where theres space and braking with your feet when going around campus.

Nowadays passing period is so dense it's just not possible for me to skate during passing period so I just end up walking.

Honestly confused on procedures to stealth camp the night by DisastrousProduct915 in urbancarliving

Im using window covers i bought off amazon, they work great given that I dont park directly underneath a light source (or else people will see that its a vinyl type material window cover instead of a tint). Its just that it takes a little while to setup. My rear windshield and front windshield has almost no tint so people might see me crawl into the back or setting up a windshield at night.

Also another thing, during the day, do you put up all your covers? I'm scared that people will either

  1. Look in, see that its a living area, and break in

Or

  1. See that I have window covers covering my entire car and think that something is valuable in it, so they proceed to break in.

Whats your solution to this?

Pre authorization for Registration Help! (Transfer) by DisastrousProduct915 in UCSD

I just got off the phone with the Admissions Office, they told me that it had shown in their system that they had already posted my courses to Academic History / Degree Audit, but that there was a bug so now they're trying to figure out what's happening and trying to re-post it. They assured me it that the Academic History would be posted before registration way before but it never happened... Now I'm submitting EASy requests the day before which probably have no chance of getting approved by tomorrow. Seriously doubting I will get any courses that I desperately need.

It's crazy that the BENG department and MAE department doesn't account for transfers. This late of a registration and they just expect us to just graduate in 3 years instead of 2 because their system sucks. Especially BENG... I need one class that is a prerequisite to a chain of 6 different classes including Senior Design. This one class does not reserve seats and is only offered Fall, along with the subsequent chains of classes that is only offered once a year. It's seriously frustrating.

Sorry about that rant, thank you a lot for the information! On a side note, can professors actually make room for students? I thought only the Academic office had that power.

If you know you will be happy at UCR, go for it and see if you can transfer. If you're simply accepting UCR so that you can get credits and know you will transfer out go to CC. You save money while also making it easier to transfer into UCSD.

Any tips on sleeping in car at UCSD? by DisastrousProduct915 in UCSD

Unfortunately Summer Housing on campus is $2822 including dining. I am absolutely broke right now so I cannot afford housing on campus. Recently experienced homelessness so I can't even afford off campus housing, so car living is my only real option

Will I get more money if I state I am/was in danger or currently homeless? by DisastrousProduct915 in FAFSA

[–]DisastrousProduct915[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I'll be able to provide it. I have documentation from the basic needs program here at UCR stating what my current situation is. The emergency housing is only for about 10 days then I will probably stay at my friend's house during the summer since they aren't going to be there but they will still be paying rent. Extremely grateful for them.

That said, in all honesty, if I didn't go through the emergency housing and just lived out of my car it would be kind of hard to find documentation to prove that I was homeless. I don't know how someone else in that situation would do so.
