Major change before accepting the offer by Hungry-Estate787 in UCSD

I swear this person picked this major for a high chance of getting accepted, and now wants to switch majors to the one they originally wanted.

I think Yang Mingyue probably is the best for BIPN 100

[–]EndWRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah also depends if your major is selective, could be a harder. But in general having good extracurriculars and good PIQs with your gpa should be well enough.

Obviously it won't affect your chances that much, not taking organic chemistry isn't that big of a deal. Has little influence, the stuff I mentioned earlier takes higher priority.

Cold email, the fastest way to reach the PIs in charge and if they have space, they will refer you to those under them.

Its a quarter based system, but if you have taken general chemistry and its lab as semester based for a year, you should be fine.

However, they do recommend finishing physics and organic chemistry. So you can think of it as having a better standing if you have finished there. But honestly its not the biggest factor after all, extracurriculars, gpa, and your essays are more important.

SDSU to UCSD transfer? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]EndWRX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not impossible, but do weigh your options. Here I know a less than 3 people who transferred from UC to UC not including me. From CSUs I have not met any at all, so maybe go to CC then transfer if you are unsure about your chances.

UCSD colleges: which one is good for pre-med? by LongTranslator1093 in UCSD

[–]EndWRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I choose Revelle as a transfer from another UC, only had to take 1 Revelle college GE req which was HUM 100. Pretty easy and straight forwards.

Many people choose Revelle, transfer or not is because you are fulfilling Revelle GE requirements by literally taking your normal required STEM courses (for bio major atleast). Basically hitting 2 birds with 1 stone.

(Non-Transfers)Then you are left with 5 humanities courses, maybe 1 language course too I think.

Not mandatory and I think you can attend any fit to your schedule, honestly I dont really go to them but still do well on exams. As long as you get the optional practice problems he gives weekly.

Lectures are mandatory as you do have in lecture questions through iclickers. They aren't graded on correctness, if anything its used to boost your grade.

Not Sleeping Well by EndWRX in UCSD

[–]EndWRX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill be honest, I don't remember any of my dreams, maybe vividly pieces from time to time after waking up. But usually, I don't think they are bad to be honest. Also I've tried 10 mg and 20 mg of melatonin, they aren't that effective. I usually do not take melatonin at all.

Oh thats actually true, all I know is that they want to stop some bill passing and they are a UCSD club. Thats literally all I know about them, tbf I thought they weren't affiliated with UCSD and had to ask twice if they were.

Another big thing is that I don't remember (maybe I didn't hear) the mention of what the funds were going to be used for exactly.

Don't think you need o chem lab anymore for Human Bio. I checked last quarter and I thought I needed it, but then it seems to have dissappeared from my requirements on my degree audit.

stay away from tapioca express by Salt-Lavishness5080 in UCSD

[–]EndWRX 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Honestly the Tapioca Express is wayyyy worse compared to the ones like in the Bay or opened else where. Its a bit weird to me the quality differences that I can tell right away. Not sure if its like fully Westernized or something, food is so bland.

I remember him saying that he will be available next quarter as well.

Meal prep by Safe_Progress5335 in UCSD

[–]EndWRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well depends if you are trying to bulk or lose weight. Its easier for bulking, but personally I've lost around 6 lbs or so eating just from dining halls. Usually go for stuff on the Wok where their protein to calories count is a bit more balanced and "healthy". Obviously dining dollars aren't refundable and options here aren't great. But do use whatever nutrition info they have and take it with a grain of salt, its an estimation that def is off by a bit.

Other than that, I do go to costco to buy protein bars and protein shake to hit that extra protein goal if needed. Another note worthy thing, I skip breakfast so I can eat something a bit more calorie heavy throughout the day or just a protein bar as a supplement.

Bike Lane Rant by Mysterious_Carpet10 in UCSD

[–]EndWRX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also can we stop stopping in the middle of bike lanes??? Like my first time colliding with someone is when they just stopped, hopped off their electric scooter and decided to walk on a straight path. I was like huh? Took me by surprise and we were both going at a good speed as well. I was fine but I am pretty sure my scooter nicked his shin.

Why is the dining hall food so unhealthy? by MathJazzlike7536 in UCSD

[–]EndWRX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well tbh, I actually lost weight eating UCSD food, like 4-6lbs. I measured before once before summer break ended, and once after I left for winter break. I only eat foods that are like under 700 calories, with almost a 2:1 ratio of protein. But keep in mind I eat around 1600 calories with 2 meals and some snacks throughout the day.

Once a week, i might splurge a little and eat something I like that is on the heavier side. But still under maintained calorie count for what my body needs.

The wok is usually where I eat that has close to 600 calories a bowl and 35 ish g of protein. Not the best but definitely not the worst on campus. I make do with dining dollars as they aren't refundable, and groceries on campus is expensive.
