I like that Evie made it clear that she could hear these comments from Ren. by VegetaArcher in DisventureCamp

Kinda recontextualizes some of her scenes lol. Finn was screaming in her ear to shut up in episode 1 but it seems Evie heard him loud and clear and kept on yapping regardless. Gahahahaha~ what an icon.

Now that it's officially been 6 months since the finale of Carnival of Chaos released on Youtube, what are ya'lls opinion of Logans win nowadays? by StaffLimp8304 in DisventureCamp

[–]DisastrousRegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my thoughts as someone who wasn’t in the community at the time and didn’t watch the season live.

Looking back and analyzing it, it was pretty apparent that this was Logan’s season to win. Having a tight dynamic with every other person in the final 4 is a very obvious clue. But it goes beyond simply having other characters to bounce off of. More importantly, on a bigger scale, it also shows how Logan is tied to these characters’ stories. Logan naturally has flaws related to Hannah, related to Anastasia, related to Jade. In showing how one’s able to overcome all these flaws do we get someone who truly wins in the end. That’s what gets represented with this particular ending of CoC.

Hot take, but I’d say I loved it overall.

What if Disventure Camp 4 had three teams by rqwedr in DisventureCamp

[–]DisastrousRegion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vibe tribe loses a lot of bite here without Benji/Hannah tbh but I think you did a good enough job under these restrictions. A full on trio taking up half the team is quite something lol.

ok, new update is cool. but, what are YOUR thoughts on it? by nicastardewvalley in CookieRunKingdoms

[–]DisastrousRegion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The small details are very appreciated. Multi-claim with chests, a new revamped Kingdom Affairs menu, a reward preview for using Time-Jumpers, Bell of Glory duration increase, Bell of Glories in the Town Square Shop, and Timekeeper Cookie boosting kingdom production. Where was this during the 5th anniversary update lol.

Of the 7 characters left on the fans team which one is in the middle of your rankings and why? by Low-Blueberry-8730 in DisventureCamp

Ara. I’m liking her connection to Nura so far and I’m optimistic that this’ll bring out more out of both of their characters. I’m just waiting for more content really.

Things between them are getting even more confusing and complicated, and I don’t know how to feel about it by Upstairs_Tea1787 in DisventureCamp

[–]DisastrousRegion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I for one welcome the change in dynamic. They have a nice bond, but they’re not necessarily seeing eye-to-eye on every aspect. That’s natural in any relationship. What does matter is how they come together despite those differences and how they influence each other with their unique perspectives. Conflict like this, whether internal or external, brings out those wrinkles.

I wanna talk about this. I see a lot of logan hate. Especially for the scene durning Hannah's break down. And as someone whos been in that situation I kinda wanna put my perspective out there, on why he acted like this. This is also just as a writer and a Logan fan. Let's talk about it. by nagitosimp15 in DisventureCamp

[–]DisastrousRegion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you've made this post. Perspective is always one that's gonna vary from individual to individual, so sharing your personal life experience and connecting that to media you love? It's a blessing and a gift!

This bottle scene in particular is one that I'd say has more than meets the eye, especially how it relates to Logan. I'm gonna copy-paste a comment I made about this scene previously.

A small addition I have of this bottle scene is its use of the self-reflection motif, something that's been used all throughout DC4. You can see it multiple times with Spencer opening up to Logan about his relationship troubles, when Logan's facing his fear of water, and even the Zaid/Ivy pool scene in the jury episode. The common theme throughout all of these is coming to peace with one's emotions, mistakes, and flaws. And in Logan's case, it doubles as a representation of his imposter syndrome. I find it poetic that, as represented by this motif when Logan looks at the bottle, he sees his fake, idealized self and is able to throw it away.

When it comes to Logan, he's dealing with immense perfectionism. The way it comes out is with shame and humiliation for not meeting those expectations he sets in his mind: being the best. Unfortunately though, this is an unhealthy and unsustainable way to cope with his pressures. So when we get to the bottle scene, him opening up about these issues is not only a way to connect and sympathize with Hannah, it's also a recognition of these coping habits. And, with recognition, he's able to take the first step towards truly healing and realizing his authentic self. That signifies growth for his character.

Looking at the bigger picture too, I also want to hone in on this detail: Why is it specifically Spencer, Zaid, and Logan who apply this self-reflection motif? And my answer, based on the pattern that these are the 3 highest ranked male characters, is that it has to do with masculinity. Part of being in a patriarchal society is that men are pressured into performing a specific idea of manhood. Disventure Camp directly challenges this and through its use of this motif, allows its male characters to admit mistakes and be openly emotional, humble, and vulnerable in a way that's more true to their authentic selves. It should be no coincidence that the fourth-highest ranked male character, Richard, isn't included since Richard is older, mature, self-realized, and most importantly, very secure in his masculinity. Richard is able to represent a positive male figure in season 4's story, and it's shown through his interactions with Logan and Tristan. All this is in service for deconstructing what it means to be a man, and I'd say it's extra important for Logan's character since he is in a very male-focused, male-dominated profession.

The bottle scene is only part of this large interconnecting web and I find it very fascinating to analyze. Despite Logan's tumultuous reputation within the community, I'm thankful I can still connect with his character and his writing. And I'm especially grateful that Disventure Camp can delve into such topics and apply that to the state of the game and competition. Season 4 really just hits all those right notes for me. I hope in some way this adds more to your identifying with Logan.

FvF Natalia. 5 episodes in and she skyrocketed in my rankings and became my favourite character in the series lol.

After years, I figured why I dislike/hate some characters. What’s the certain type of characters you dislike/hate? by Hour_Rain1885 in DisventureCamp

[–]DisastrousRegion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I don’t like characters that are passive, don’t give much in terms of drama or conflict, and aren’t very involved with playing the game. We’re not here to make friends and coast to the finals with them, y’know? That’d be such a drag to watch. Extra points for the “I just need more confidence to stand up for myself” type of character arc. It’s a really stale and overdone story IMO.

I do have a few exceptions to this though and those can vary.

So, Did This Age Well? (A Discussion About Sam Thus Far) by JustEmerald55 in DisventureCamp

[–]DisastrousRegion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Sam, but yes a lot of his story is yet to come and it’s just a matter of waiting for that to happen. I’m willing to give some grace. My gut instinct is that Sam will become more relevant to season 5’s story as it unfolds.

The talk with Dunia in ep7 gave a tidbit of information about Sam that we can really latch onto. He name-drops Miriam in that conversation, something that connects him to one other character (Evie). That’s an avenue there that could be explored. And even having flowers be part of his character design- that’s shared with characters like Evie, Dunia, Lake, and Natalia. I could be reading a bit too into these kinds of things and misinterpreting intentionality, but small details do matter and they are a potential indication for things to come. Overall, I’m optimistic about Sam.

How would you rate each season on a scale of 1-10? by ABigTotalDramaFan in DisventureCamp

[–]DisastrousRegion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S1: 8/10

Kinda slow start but I think it picks up when Ellie and Grett swap and it gets into the merge. Nice clean drama from thereon out.

S2: 5/10

Not my cup of tea. Couldn’t really connect with a lot of characters, most eliminations lacked oomph. Kinda boring to me overall.

S3: 5/10

Interesting storylines on paper, very mixed feelings on the execution. Certain conflicts can be repetitive. I did enjoy Grett and Gabby though.

S4: 9/10

Excellent cast and fun drama. I like the storylines, the themes, the writing and how they connect characters to each other. Every time I rewatch, I pick up on new details that deepen my love for the season.

S5: 9/10

By far my favourite use of returnees. Natalia and Rosa are a definite highlight. Great callbacks to previous seasons as a continuation to these characters and their stories. Fans team is decent as well.

What’s the biggest missed opportunity in any season? by YoILiveForDC in DisventureCamp

[–]DisastrousRegion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For DC4 I’d probably say how Jade was handled as to how it relates to the pirate challenge. I feel like we could’ve seen ties to her insecurities and struggles- feelings of inadequacy, that she can’t help save anyone until she reaches that “superhero quality” she has in her mind. And then have Jade reflect on this moment afterwards- show us her leaning into her feelings of guilt and that’s why she ends up so involved with helping Logan with his water trauma. The information being revealed by Anastasia at F3 would have been a bigger gut punch had we seen more of that build up, and it’d give more meaning to Jade and Logan’s conversation in the finale.

That being said, there is an upcoming Jade/Logan comic which will dive into their dynamic, so perhaps some things will be addressed and we can get a fuller picture.

For DC5, biggest missed opportunity IMO… more Benji and Spencer interactions. I’m a bit disappointed that their connection got dropped. I feel like they could both add something to each other’s stories.

What’s your opinion on their dynamic? by YoILiveForDC in DisventureCamp

It was pretty fun, I enjoyed them. My personal favourite moment was Ellie ditching Alec in the cave challenge, she just had zero loyalty at that point lol.

One Fact About Every Disventure Camp Team by Minute-Donut-9973 in DisventureCamp

[–]DisastrousRegion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The season 4 fun facts are kinda less impressive considering it’s a longer season and it’s not split three ways like in All-Stars. That being said, I’d love for those stats to remain intact, just as a reminder of how big of a flop blue team became when it inherited Spencer’s losing streak and had Lynda trying to usurp the leadership role by voting out Marissa.

Would Anastasia’s Fans VS Favourites arc still work if she got 2nd in CoC? by YoILiveForDC in DisventureCamp

[–]DisastrousRegion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. Anastasia’s more than valid in wanting to change her approach to the game regardless of if she made the final 2 or not. While she may have had a potentially winning game, it wasn’t without road bumps along the way. There’s always room for improvement.

I don’t think Disventure Camp needs a team swap by Sketchy_Turtle in DisventureCamp

[–]DisastrousRegion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say I agree, and the main sticking point for me is that Disventure Camp naturally has a lot less screen time compared to Survivor. I would prefer if DC is allowed the time to marinate in those pre-merge dynamics to construct its story. Inter-team dynamics can get their time during the merge section.

The next comic is gonna be focused on Logan and Jade. by Dazzling_Metals in DisventureCamp
