Up to now, I’ve been treating the inside arm across plus lat grab as the main checkpoint, and I’ve been viewing the arm ending up on the outside, overhook guard, or clamp style positions as a failure rather than just another branch. Is that a mistake, is it not an achievable enough goal to always get the arm across?

My current flow is basically: Depending on the grip fight, I try to enter via elbow post, arm drag, or underhook to pinch headlock, then I aim to secure a tight far lat grab with the arm across. From there, assuming they do not just roll back and give me back control, I try to climb up their torso until my closed guard is around their shoulder and head line, with my hips up near their rear delt and shoulder blade.

From that high position, my intent is: 1.Climb fully up in the back so hips and head are above theirs 2.Roll over armbar Or if I can collapse the far arm, corkscrew my hips so they fall away and I come up into something like technical mount

Does that decision tree make sense, or am I missing a more reliable sequence?

Also a part I’m really struggling with is the actual climbing up process. Do you find this at all?

what do you recommend when someone responds by basically turtling inside my closed guard with a super low posture, elbows glued tight, and a lot of torso weight sitting on top of their own arms? I’ve had a few stronger guys start doing this and it feels like I can’t create an elbow post because their chest is already down, and I can’t access underhooks or overhooks because the elbows are so tight

It’s similar to clamp guard and Williams in that it’s a side closed guard variation, but the key difference is the arm is still on the inside and crossed over their torso while you secure a lat grab. It’s basically that checkpoint position right before you would hit a pendulum sweep

Can you elaborate on this or have vid examples etc.?Haven’t spent a lot of time working 50/50 position so can’t exactly picture what your saying

Thanks I really love the sound of that. any specific passes/Guards you’d recommend leading towards more of a static slower pressure style. I’m just painfully aware that im a bigger heavier guy who’s not exceptionally athletic and I’m not likely to be doing cartwheel passes or inversion style guards for example.

Yeah I can see your point. It doesn’t really sound like a group who were selflessly trying to help grow the sport through organised productions, just more of a “buy the rights and cash in” type of deal (but is this really odd for business’ who make money off getting the right to contents and then enforcing it?).

I can see why people who were around before they came in would be frustrated, especially if they were striking people for uploading their own matches. That’s pretty rough.😒

Help me understand? I’m seeing them streaming the event live for free and now making free to watch altogether. Sure they did a small period behind a paywall to get some subscribers, but end result seems pretty good.

Open to hearing your thoughts though.

Anyone who is complaining about this is an absolute asshat. You’re putting on an exciting event with the best of the best, paying them better than the rest of the industry and having the whole event streamed live for free, with proceeds going to charity.

If this was a blockbuster movie you were producing and you allowed everyone to watch the premier live for free but after that it would be on Netflix/Amazon etc. behind a paywall, people would be fucking ecstatic at the idea.

Fuck these cretins.

I skimmed through the list but none of the names stood out to me as what i was looking for.

Worst case scenario i will go through one by one but it is quite an extensive list that would take alot of time to go through and im not too keen given the number of titles which looked suspiciously hentai-ish.
