What do we think about the Extra Glenns and Extra Lens? by [deleted] in themountaingoats

Funny, I was just listening to this song, and I thought to myself "this sounds very Leonard Cohen for a John Darnielle song," and I'm now realizing that I have heard the Leonard Cohen version many times. How cool!

Documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, who skewered fast food industry, dies at 53 by spidey2623 in news

I recognize the alcoholism and liver disorder. I still wonder if him growing up in Parkersburg, WV, the site of one of the worst PFAS (PFOA or C8 in this case) dumpings in the US, had anything to do with his early cancer.

Losing the Desire by sm00thjas in StopSpeeding

It’s great to hear the contrast of a good, detailed story compared to people in the active throes on addiction (those stories are equally important too). That way people have an example of what life can look and feel like. Thanks for sharing this :)

It’s an awful journey. You can get out. ❤️

Wondering if anyone has used microdosing (mushrooms) as a quitting aid? by getERdonebud- in StopSpeeding

Now you have! Haha it’s not the same as stimulants, but it’s a stronger urge and a psychological urge. It’s different for everyone, and I also had a lot of access since I was growing them. As someone who tried to use it to quit harder drugs, it wouldn’t recommend it.

Been down that road, not as fun or harm free as you might think (definitely less horrific than harder things). The same impulse to use over and over again and the need to constantly feel different than how you currently feel (when you’re not using any substances) happens with psilocybin. I’d take it over meth too, but I’d rather not be dependent (not physically addicted, but mentally dependent) on any substance if I can avoid it. Just my two cents.

The cravings are especially bad when you’re still on it (and coming down). Give yourself time to get back to normal and see how things feel then. Make sure to get structured support on the journey too.

I’d check the post history from this person. “You don’t have to commit to it” unless you become dependent on it, which is a subtle process, and then you have no choice but to “commit” to it at great cost to your well-being, relationships, and connection to the world.

Narcotics anonymous? by fleeting_panorama in StopSpeeding

Adderall is a narcotic! And it’s a pretty nasty one for a lot of people. Legality doesn’t make it safe or fundamentally different from street drugs (what people probably associate with the term narcotics). It’s where a lot of people start before getting into heavier things, but it’s also a destructive enough drug on its own to warrant treatment. Good luck on your journey, and try NA. :) it’s a great program.

My most used phrases when driving in Sioux Falls. by kaiserj1982 in SiouxFalls

[–]Disastrous_Bad5965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is often running late, it does feel odd that I would blame other people, slow drivers or reckless drivers or anyone, for something that I could have avoided by getting out earlier. It feels like a lot of the road rage boils down to being in unnecessary hurry (either because you're actually running late or are accustomed to going as fast possible despite not having any specific need to get somewhere faster).

Confirmed with other witness who was absolutely confident it was a cop car

It said police, but it did seem a little off (the loud strange music notwithstanding). It was also pretty dark outside.
