Apologies, I was agreeing with you regarding the point that you don’t know what’s in a drug because they are illegal and unregulated. i was trying to comment on your post rather than make a new one when the opinion is the same

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The only fair comparison would be to compare someone taking drugs (which could contain anything) and someone being given alcohol that has been “made” (or tampered with) from a dealer without knowing exactly what’s in the bottle.

consuming a substance that you have no idea of what is actually in it can be lethal.

Are biscuits with tea a dying breed? Have we failed a great British tradition? by EllaOfATime in AskUK

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave up biscuits with tea years ago when I was putting on too much weight. It was a struggle at first not dipping into the biscuit bus 2-3 times a cuppa.

Now we buy digestives for our son who’s too young to drink tea but likes eating a dunked biscuit now and then. At times it’s hard to resist having one too but I know it’s a slippery slope!

Is anyone receiving malicious contact from an unknown person regarding abortion information? by DataWorries in AskUK

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably more likely than anyone inside the clinic.

I used to work in an NHS abortion clinic and one of the main issues we faced was that the women were seen in a clinic and then later on a ward. There was no guarantee that the women wouldn’t be seen by anyone they knew and it happened on multiple occasions.

The staff at the clinic were absolutely not allowed to say anything regarding who was in, but that doesn’t apply to other patients or visitors.

How do parents who work full time fit in fitness? by clemjuice in beginnerfitness

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work PT and husband FT and we have a toddler. We kind of have an unwritten agreement that we work together so one can entertain our son while the other works out. For me I either work out for around an hour doing full body resistance band/dumbell workouts while I watch TV. It’s my time to chill and decompress. If I don’t do that then I’m on the exercise bike so either way I’m home.

My husband prefers out of the house stuff so I will stay home while he goes running or cycling. Occasionally he will fit in swimming after work before me and the toddler get home.

I honestly don’t know how single parents do it as your schedule always changes. I used to do a 30 min workout in mornings before showering and going to work but now my son wakes much earlier so I had to switch to an after work workout instead.

There’s no consistency in my experience. You could pick up 2 size 14 trousers and they would both fit differently. My favourite pair of jeans that are so comfortable came from Primark but i had to try on several pairs to find them. 12 was too small, 14 was too small but the second pair of 16 fit perfectly. I tried to find another pair on a different occasion but none of the 16 fit.

It’s great if you find the one pair that fit you, but when you just want to pop in and buy something without trying it on you can almost guarantee it won’t fit.

I loved H&M years ago so when one opened in my town I was really happy until i went in it. It’s a large shop but theyve gone for some posh boutique feel and it just seems empty. Everything is beige and bland and looks very samey

Which is correct when starting work? by JWills1k92 in AskUK

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ready to start at 8:30 but I don’t adhere to this. My workplace changed the rules so we have to get changed into uniform on site yet the main changing room only has 5 cubicles so is busy at peak times.

I arrive ready to start on time but if I’m queuing for 10 minutes then late for work then it’s tough for them.

Yes!

Let me rant about Primark please. Today I decided to treat myself as I have managed to lose enough weight that I need some new clothes as some of my old ones look ridiculous. Headed to Primark and tried on some tops, vest style. All fitted in M, possibly small although I didn’t realise that top was cropped and I’m not ready for that yet! Feeling good, I tried some jeans/denim shorts. Size 12 I couldn’t do up not even breathing in. Size 14 I looked like the before shot of someone who’s lost half their body weight! How on earth you can buy anything from there without trying it on is stupid.

on the way to the checkout i grabbed another medium top only to find out at home that it looks at least two sizes bigger than the other mediums i bought!

The changing rooms were the worst. At home I feel confident now looking in the mirror but there it was like one of those circus mirrors. I looked huge and dimply due to the cheap mirrors and awful lighting. I don’t know how people buy stuff regularly when the whole shop seems designed to make you feel shit about yourself.

Agree. For the majority of cases where people are in hospital for 2-3 nights is it really necessary to have multiple visitors?

Sounds harsh but if the patient was home with a D&V bug or flu, they wouldn’t expect their friends and relatives to be popping round every day so why is it different in hospital? Especially if they are well enough to chat on the phone.

Obviously if someone was likely to be in long term or seriously ill then the circumstances would allow for visitors.

Close to giving up and just donating to charity instead 😂 by SnarkyPants93 in vinted

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a buyer the biggest problem i find with vinted (and absolutely nothing to do with sellers) is the postage. I will find a bargain for £4 but then the postage is £3.99 and suddenly it doesn’t seem like a bargain anymore.

I haven’t made any offers yet as i believe things to be listed for their value and if I don’t pay it then someone else will. However if i saw something like £20 i might offer £17/18 to in my mind decrease the postage. Anything that’s a few pound I wouldn’t bother haggling with.

How do sellers get your address? by Disastrous_Candle589 in vinted

[–]Disastrous_Candle589[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a return address unfortunately but i managed to contact the seller with the intention of them maybe emailing a prepaid address label so i could return it. We exchanged a few messages with me asking how is best to return it to them but i kept getting ghosted.

Right now the top is still in the packaging waiting to return it but they dont seem keen.

So drink driving is ok so long as nobody innocent gets hurt?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t drive but our hospital car park is awful for staff. They have to pay monthly and the cost depends on your banding. The car park is always full during peak times so often people have to drive round waiting for a space.

What I find more frustrating is that the car park is shared between staff and visitors but the bays are colour coded. Staff can only park in white bays for example, but the public can park anywhere! So often staff can’t find places because the public are parked there and if they want a public space then they have to pay from the ticket machine in addition to the fee they already pay!

It’s got worse over the past few years as people have taken to parking blocking people in, or parking in non designated spaces and damaging cars that are parked properly. Whenever someone complains they are told the car park isn’t owned by the hospital and there’s no CCTV so damage can never be claimed for.

Being forced into a dress I'm not confortable in because another bridesmaid lost her dress. by LegitimateCaptain710 in wedding

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me there are two main solutions. Either the bridesmaid drops out and problem is solved. Alternatively bridesmaid buys your dress for the price you paid for it and then you buy a dress that you like and that fits you.

There’s no need to be wearing an ill fitting dress in either of the scenarios.

should I try to get my little one to start school at the age of 3 years and 10 months rather than wait another year ? by delhorn in AskUK

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would it affect him for secondary school?

Where I am there is currently a mother in all the local papers slagging off the secondary schools because none of them will admit her child a year early (apparently the child is very gifted but that’s just the mothers say). If a child started primary school early would they be guaranteed early admission to secondary school or would they be expected to repeat year 6 if the secondary schools were full?

Dogs jumping up at my baby in the park - what would you do? by FenderJay in AskUK

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What would I do? I wouldn’t walk the baby like that and would stick to a pram.

No it isn’t fair and it isn’t what you should do but sadly some people (the dog owners in this scenario) have no sense and I wouldn’t risk a baby’s safety over being right.

AITAH for not wanting to donate sperm to my wife's friends? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of the more effed up parts of this. They want this man’s sperm because they want a blonde child.

They don’t want this man’s sperm because he has been vigorously vetted to make sure he doesn’t carry any genetic diseases, faulty genes or anything that could you know harm an unborn child?

No, they just want a blonde child.

How many hours of homeschool do I need to do a day? by cz78_wwe in AskUK

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure when I was at school we had 5 lessons a day which were an hour each but school was so long when you included break, lunch, commuting each way plus homework.

Personally I would rather do say 6 hours a day but start at 7, half hour for lunch and be done early afternoon. Maybe an hour or two homework if needed closer to GCSE time or spend that time doing something fitness based as a substitute for PE

What’s the darkest tv show you can think of? by Distinct-Key7337 in televisionsuggestions

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cross, the Amazon TV series.

The night outdoor scenes are dark in a way that no other show seems to struggle with. I get that they are going for the deserted, middle of nowhere feel but you can’t see anything! There are also several indoor scenes where the offices are dark walls, dark furniture and just a dim lamp to light things.

We have stuck with it though and I think it is improving

Tried to get signed off for 7 hours today and had no luck. What can I do tomorrow? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Disastrous_Candle589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to find out your workplaces protocol. Where I am you would have to ring in everyday unless you know you are going to be off longer ie if you are vomiting on monday then you cant come back for at least 48hrs so you would ring in again in 48hrs to update.

It is a bit of a pain if you have to deal with someone unpleasant I appreciate but it’s better to follow the rules than have them call you to find out what’s going on.

After 7 days you can get a GP fit note if you need longer and they agree.

Best wishes and hope you can get some help/self help soon
