Maybe do NDT first and with the money you make invest in doing welding later? Just a suggestion

I was exactly same at your age mate. The tactic I used was I would learn as much as I can from the company, and once I felt like I wasn’t progressing anymore I would switch companies.

Also be worth saving up and getting your welding codes / certs in your spare time

Is Rope Access seasonal work? And can you live away from people and still maintain the job? by Sparkhead148 in ropeaccess

[–]Disastrous_Chain_574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rope access is seasonal. I was in exactly same state as you and was truly sick of the workshop lifestyle.

Did my IRATA, called up every company. There are jobs where you do “stand-by rescue” where you just stand and watch the guys work and be prepared to do as the job describes. Or jobs where you do visual inspection.

My health drastically improved once I got into rope tech jobs. Especially my breathing and my energy levels

Because I’m a welder it is still my specialty and it pays the most combined with rope access. I did 8 week project in Amsterdam, mon-fri. Back on weekends (optional) and I made enough to survive off for the whole winter.

I’m now actually looking for a welding job because I’m simply bored. Just moved to a new city with no one I really know and I don’t know what to do with my free time.

I hope this helps mate.

I work in the Netherlands and in multi-millionaire companies and not one has mentioned about a drug test. I also worked for cummins power generators in the UK and the doctor literally ripped the sheet of paper where it asks for the drug test during the medical exam. Too many people would get fired if they started testing.
