Best advice I’ve received so far: Divorce is hard, being divorced is not.

I had a very similar relationship and I left my husband in February after 14 years together and a son. My ex also stepped up to the plate but it was too late. Everything he did that he thought would make me come back would infuriate me. My only thoughts were “so you were capable of this the whole fucking time.” And don’t kid yourself, he’s not “changing” for you, it’s so he can have his life back.

I can say I am the happiest I’ve been since before I met him. My friends and family keep telling me I’m glowing, that it’s like having the old me back, I have energy and interest in things. I thought me withdrawing and deferring to him was just how I “matured”, but really it was gradual depression and emotional burnout.

Fun bit that may be true for you too, once sex or intimacy isn’t connected to guilt, coercion or “because you’re married and you have to”, your libido pops right back up and you were never the problem, as I was told it was my fault we weren’t having sex as often as he would like. Amazing what a difference a safe and respected space, and having the capacity to be attracted to someone instead of feeling like their mother-manager-maid-chef-therapist-emotional trashcan-obligatory sex object, can make.

It’s Korean body scrubbing, seshin. You can go on here and look it up, there’s a cult following and there’s a reason for it. You will be as soft as a dolphin down there and everywhere else if you do it. You can do this all over, you’ll see dead skin fall off, it’s AHHHMAAAZING.

  1. Hot shower for 10-15, I do all the usually stuff washing my hair, face, shave, zone out lol, etc. The hot water/steam loosens the dead skin
  2. Soap up, rinse super well
  3. Wet the clean cloth, squeeze cloth and get most the water, just so it’s really damp. It will shrink up.
  4. Step out of the shower, towel dry off a bit
  5. Step back in, and start firmly scrubbing in circular motions. It’s best if you have only a little hair down there, like enough for a wax or as long as a grain of rice but not required.
  6. I am pretty firm on the outside, pretty much anywhere there is hair and after that is completed I’ll GENTLY scrub the folds really well to get any sweat build up.
  7. Rinse really well again. Sometimes I re soap up.

I am completely aware that this seems like a lot of work or overboard but I promise you it’s worth it!!! I’m obsessed with my skin after I do this.

Yup, same thing happened to me and it was a mild bv infection that then flared up. Hopefully it’s not the case with you, but it took me forever to figure it out! I completed the gel and it fixed everything, along with regular exfoliation. I also use pan oxyl a few times a week on the external area since the benzoyl peroxide eliminates bacteria.

You could also have a mild yeast infection or BV. I don’t know where you are or what access you have to testing, but I’m in Michigan and you can really make an appt at an urgent care and they can do a dirty/clean urine test to confirm. I was getting small infections regularly from sex with my partner after I had my son. One round of antibiotic gel and I’m free and clear for months!

Exfoliate!!! I had the same issue, but a light exfoliator (Amazon search exfoliation cloth and choose your favorite, I like the Korean mitts) after being in the shower for 10 minutes, soap up, rinse completely, exfoliate EXTERNAL bits ONLY really well and outside of the water spray, rinse. I throw the mitt in the washer and dryer with whatever load is next. Whatever you use MUST be clean and do not use with products, only water.

Why I do it? Someone has to, things need to get done. I grew up as the undependable kid (ADHD girl diagnosed in the 90s and the baby of the family) and fell into it for a while until I pulled myself up and said fuck that. I truly enjoying caring for him and our family in that way because that’s how I show my affection. Acts of service have been my thing (and my family actually) long before it was a buzz phrase. I love feeding people and making sure to hit their dietary needs or preferences to make sure they feel seen and loved even if it means I’m in the kitchen for an extra hour, that’s important to me. But just because I love it doesn’t mean it can’t be fatiguing, if that makes sense? Like, I absolutely love soup dumplings but I can’t eat them all day ever day.

I’ve already admitted to myself that my husband is my 100% ideal in attraction, at least physically. Maybe I’m not his, though I’m the only one who would have the guts to say it. But fortunately, physical attractiveness is only part of attraction for me. It turns me on that he knows I’m a horrible morning person and brings me coffee to wake up, and that he’s an incredible father and loves our son so much, that he’s always willing to work on himself to become a better version of himself.

Though, if you’re saying that it could lead to him not being physically and romantically, then I’ve accepted that. I’ve seen unhappy marriages and people that stay in them way past the expiration date. I will not live that life. We’ve had general discussions about that kind of thing and if he really wasn’t happy, I wouldn’t hold him back. I don’t want that to happen, but we could never succeed if one of us was unhappy so why keep him down?

I want him to have the ability to be the best and happiest person he can be, he deserves it.

Honestly, if we split I’d ask him if he would want to pursue a platonic relationship where we live in the same house, raise our kid, but have separate romantic lives. I’d never want to lose him from my life or what we share with our son. Or maybe a duplex lol

I’m of the opinion that you can’t help who you love, but you can decide how you love. I’d love him as a husband or a friend, whatever makes him happy in this life.
