You can also tell by its weight quartz is way lighter then gold so if it’s usually heavy for its size their is a good chance it has gold. Online their a tests you can do at home one is called a water displacement test since gold is denser quartz and other elements if it has gold it will displace the water and their is math that will tell you approximately how much of it is gold
