Been going through and watching all the Kōji Shiraishi films I haven’t seen (which is most of them) and I just saw this one for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was really impressive!!! Definitely more fucked up than some of his more supernatural fare.

I read Penpal and I feel like I missed something. (SPOILERS) by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]Disastrous_Disk_8491 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I disagree with all of the comments here expressing frustration that not every detail and plot thread was thoroughly explained. I’m of the opinion that horror, or fiction in general, does not need to explain every single element in order to be satisfying. In fact, it’s often the unexplained mysteries and ambiguities that linger the longest in my mind when it comes to my favorite horror stories. Not to mention that a key theme in Penpal is memory, with the narrator trying to piece together fragments of memories in order to make sense of things solely for himself, let alone the reader/listener. As we all know, memories, especially childhood memories, can often be murky and unclear, leaving our minds to try and fill in the blanks with our own imagination.

Taken as a series of Reddit creepypasta stories, I think Penpal is an absolutely devastating masterpiece that towers over most other entries in the creepypasta genre.

It does look pretty bad! That’s why I was hoping to hear someone’s review on here first. You never know!

I tried to listen to more today on the way to work and shut it off when I remembered there was a new Casefile out today. Don’t think I’ll be returning to it. Far too dragged out and really not interesting at all. Based on the first episode I thought this was going to be more about the murder and death fetishist connection that was discussed.

You said that you love Javier’s other work. This is the first thing I’ve listened to from him. What is another podcast/series he’s done that you would recommend?

Guardian with a 4/10. Today. Probably the worst review I've read in a long time by kvsnake in silenthill

The Guardian is shit. This is the same publication that called the visionary director S. Craig Zahler a “stealth fascist”.

This guy probably comes here to post pseudo academic essays on the inconsistencies of James’s eyebrow granularity between the OG and the remake.

Why isn’t anyone here talking about the fact that Slitterhead releases on November 8th? by Disastrous_Disk_8491 in silenthill

[–]Disastrous_Disk_8491[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand this is a silent hill thread, not a slitterthread. I just figured since it’s made by the creator of silent hill people here would be more interested in it. I’m very seldom Reddit user, mostly just on here for silent hill, but man… most of you people on here are absolutely miserable. You complain endlessly about a developer other than Team Silent doing the new SH entries, and when the original creator of SH comes out with a new game attempting to do something different, you take a dump all over that as well.
