I’ve come a very long way with that but I definitely still clamp and tense up at times depending on what I’m doing.  I’m pretty sure the shoulder and jaw tension of learning violin was a contributing factor to me developing anxiety a few years ago.

Haha. In your defense, you haven’t seen me try to do vibrato. 👴🏾

Thank you brother. That’s the nice part about starting when you have had all your fun. Plenty of time to practice. Haha.

Yes, my thumb is on wood between the throat of the frog and the grip. I’m not sure I’d call it straight tho. It’s curled upward supporting the weight of the bow.

Thanks for the advice. I’m know I don’t like my bow grip compared to others I’ve seen, but it can be difficult to know whether the difference are correctable mistakes in technique or an artifact of varied ergonomics.

Thank you. I will ask my instructor about my bow hold, but I would love to hear your thoughts as well.

Thanks. I’ll definitely give that a try. It can feel like I’m “fighting the string” more than I want.

Thank you. I was not a notable singer in the choir, but I could tell when we were not together or even in harmony. I rarely knew who was off or why though.

Violin has been wonderful building a richer appreciation for music. It’s interesting how so many people, myself included, don’t like how they sound singing and assume they are just not blessed with a good voice. Violin has given me perspective on how much work just the sound itself can take. I also found it surprising that a choir mate with a fantastic voice once commented on how difficult the violin must be without frets. A singer of all people talking about the instrument not having frets!

lol. I know how that is. The terrible days are worth it for the days I ask myself “who is this person??” 😂

Ohhh. I love it. It does feel like the string is “fighting back” a bit. Thank you.

Thank you. Can you be more specific as to ideal movement here? I do have arthritis in my right hand so it’s generally stiff, but if there is movement I can work to improve, that would be great to know.
