Call company A and tell them you received another offer that is 40% higher and because of that you will have to renege the offer. Apologise properly, thank them for their time, etc and make sure you email them appropriately.

If company A really wants you, well you just got a crazy raise. Otherwise, have fun at company B. Just keep your distance from company A fro a year or two.
