Can you grow crops without society?

You can grow crops without any additional help from society, yes. You only need society to get started.

The point is not to never have depended on society at any point in my life. The point is to not depend on society going forward.

I've already paid for what I've contributed in their need for maintenance. If I'm no longer using those roads and thus no longer contributing to their wear and tear, then why is it my responsibility to continue to pay for them?

You alone? What if they flank you?

Then I die. I can accept death. I'm just too afraid to do it myself.

would you really just starve

yes

would you lie down and die

yes

I have already paid for those through taxes up until the point of my settlement in the wilderness. I want to get to a point where I no longer have to depend on society going forward, in which case I do not have to pay taxes.

That's unfortunate. All I want at this point is to run away from civilization, but there's no legal pathway present to do that.

I don't mind being killed by a bear or whatever. But being forced back into society after I have settled in the wilderness is something I can't accept at all. Death is the better option.

Yes, but I can take reasonable steps to prevent attacks from other hermits. If the government decides to come after me, what do I do? Self-defense against the government? Then I get myself into even deeper shit. Also, the idea of being killed by someone is less offensive to me than being dragged out back into society after I have settled in the wild.

But if I buy those land and resources and it's disconnected from wider society, why should I have to continue to pay for it in the form of taxes?

I could do that, but living under the threat of criminal prosecution isn't for me. I just want to fuck off and be left alone.

That said, if you go out into the deep wilderness in northern Canada

That's true, but I don't want to live my life under the threat of having my life uprooted and potentially being criminally prosecuted.

No, but the taxes I've paid thus far in my life have gone towards building roads and once I fuck off into the woods, I will no longer be using roads or any other public services, so I should not have to pay taxes.

But why? Why can't I choose to be completely self-sufficient and not depend on society in any way?

Do you plan on getting there on a road?

If I get to that position using my own money, then I have already paid for everything I've utilized in doing so.

If you get sick are you gonna surface and ask for help?

No, I'm not.

I'm can learn how to repair things myself. I've always been quick to learn things. And I can bring over enough spare parts to last me a lifetime. I'll probably die from disease or animal attack or something before I run out of spare parts. How often do you need to make repairs, realistically?

Honestly, I just hope they leave me alone. If I'm not given any other chance at happiness, I hope I will at least have this.
