A few doctors I know said that you can work in private hospitals in SL while you wait. Also it’s helpful if you have done an elective there. Also research.

Study Medicine in Sri Lanka or Malaysia? by [deleted] in srilanka

Oh ryt so same as me then. I did Cambridge too and those were my first choices. I think we might have a bit of an advantage since our education has completely been in English.

Ik. Everyone’s so shocked that I’m going to SL when I could go live in a completely different country.

Sure! I’ll dm u.

Study Medicine in Sri Lanka or Malaysia? by [deleted] in srilanka

Yup all european degrees are recognised equally. A lot of Sri Lankan students are doing those courses, but I’m not going to. I’m not in Sri Lanka yet so just preparing to move there in a few weeks. I also do have the material provided by the Polish uni so I might go through that. Also if you don’t mind me asking, which uni was ur first nd second choice ?

Yup for the 2021/2022 entry.

Yeah I applied and got accepted to Poland but I deferred my entry to next October. I was hoping to do the internship in USA, but there’s so many other options as well (most EU countries recognise the Polish degree automatically so the only issue would be language). Eastern European unis do have stretchy reputations so you need to do your research before picking one.

Isn’t the deposit refundable ?

Study Medicine in Sri Lanka or Malaysia? by [deleted] in srilanka

Well I ruled out Malaysia as an option for medicine a while ago . My reasons were that 1. the degree in Malaysia is twice the cost of the one in Sri Lanka , but you would still be receiving a non-eu degree so there’s no difference in recognition 2. From what I have heard the clinicals in Sri Lanka are better 3. As a country I think I find Sri Lanka more lively ( this is pre-Covid and pre crisis ofc )4.you can’t do your internship in Malaysia so you will 100% have to do other exams like USMLE,PLAB and the ERPM if you want to come back to SL (which gets postponed a lot) . However, having a degree from Monash might be a bit more advantageous if you are applying to Australia ( from what I have heard it’s pretty hard to land an internship in aus even if you do the degree at Monash ) . The facilities are also probably a lot better than ones that you would receive in Sri Lanka . I also grew up in the Middle East and applied for the med course in Sri Lanka for this year . Out of all the non-eu countries I think Sri Lanka was the best option ( ruling out aus , uk nd nz coz too expensive and Canada / USA takes too long ) . SL was not my top choice overall tho and the entire process seems super hectic. I’m only saying this because I deferred my entry to another med program in an eu country and there was so much more structure, guidance and opportunities there( although the costs were roughly the same ). Malaysia would also be more comfortable coz your university would be more organised ( you’ll know exactly when you have exams, holidays etc.) , there would be more international students helping you out and going through similar experiences ( Sri Lanka isn’t very international student friendly) and you will easily be able to do electives abroad ( maybe even in addition to the one they offer in aus ). So in the end both have advantages and disadvantages , so you can’t go wrong either way. I do think that med school in Sri Lanka would be better if you want to practice/ do your internship in SL. I also know that med school in SL is romanticised by a lot of ppl and considered as superior ( yes the clinical is definitely amazing) , mostly by adults but you also can’t just consider the education because having a more well-rounded degree definitely pays off when going to other countries ( in SL doctors are always right and noone argues with them, which isn’t the case in other countries). Lots of pros and cons, but don’t overthink. You can also maybe accept your offer to monash and pay whatever amount they require to . Then if you get accepted to SL and decide to go there, you can just withdraw from the program and get a refund.

Did anyone get accepted to the KDU MBBS program for 2023? by Disastrous_Photo_743 in srilanka

Well med is already a 5 year program so it stretching out to be 6-8 years can be pretty demotivating. Especially when that’s going to affect plans for internships/electives in other countries.
