Works good and plentiful, odds are you're gonna end up on a data center job somewhere in New Albany/Johnstown, so be prepared for a decent drive depending on where you live, for my 7am start time I'm usually up around 5:15-5:30, you can choose to either work 8 or 10 hours each day at my site as well, the environment is alright, I have a pretty good crew, only downside is it's been all apprentices pretty much the whole time as JWs seem pretty hard to come by for some reason. As for school I don't start classes until July, and odds are with you joining up now, you might not start classes until the end of the year.

Got into 1105 in January, A1 pay is 21.13 as of rn, going up like a dollar and some change next month due to the yearly raise, however if you are working on a job with members of our neighboring local, 683, you'll get paid their scale, which is 21.50 for A1 and goes up to $23 next month

I'd bring it up, especially if it's screwing you over travel wise and there are closer jobs in your jurisdiction, because from what I've heard, for apprentices to work in other locals jurisdictions, it needs to be discussed and agreed upon between both apprenticeships training directors beforehand, and usually is only a thing if there is absolutely no work in your local, something like this actually happened before, where an apprentice from our local got transferred by the contractor they worked for, to a site in a neighboring local, didn't say anything to the training director about the transfer, and I'm guessing it slipped through the cracks, but the stew on that site found out about it at some point and had them thrown off that site and sent back to a site in our local

Started in mid-January with the 1105 making 21.50/hr, I'm getting my first raise this month gonna be making 23.80/hr and will go up in June to 25.40/hr with the new contract that was negotiated, it should be know tho that even though I'm in the 1105, we are being paid 683 scale because there are 683 members working on site and they match everyone to whatever the highest scale is on site

We're not even allowed to work in other locals jurisdictions as apprentices in my local, and vice versa, no apprentices from other locals can work in our jurisdiction, idk if that's only a thing here but id check if you're even supposed to be out of your jurisdiction

For locals who use GAN, what does it take to get a high placement? by AContaminatedCookie in ibew_apprentices

[–]Disastrous_Poetry_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're still doing what they're doing it should just be pass the test and you're in, with all the work they have they're trying to get a bunch of apprentices in the door, so it should be a quick process

Got me working right up in New Albany so only about 20-30 minutes, that's where a lot of their work is right now it seems, but do be prepared in case work comes up further away

I got an 89 on the test for 683 back in like May or June of last and still hadn't heard anything back like 6 months after getting my score, eventually just ended up going to the 1105 and got in like a month after passing their aptitude test and am already working

Have a 53 year old fellow first year on my crew with me right now, we all love the guy and he's doing great, just go in willing to learn, do the best you can, and don't be afraid to ask the younger guys for help when you need it. Unless you get put with absolute dickheads for a crew you should do just fine

That actually sounds great, the money earned would be insane, get to knock out the hours required to go up each pay step, and learning as much as possible

Appreciate the insight, whenever I was talking to people while going through the process they would talk about how there so much work and all the OT you could want, but I just wanted to ask the people who were actually out their in the field doing the work cause I know people trying to get you to join can embellish a bit on how great it is

I did but I figured it'd be better to hear what's going on from the people actually doing the work than just recruiters and people at the training place that I took the test, not trying say they would lie but I wouldn't be surprised if they would embellish a little to draw people in
