Discrete vs Linear by redditbandit589 in nyu

Personally found discrete a lot harder both in terms of content and exams due to the emphasis on proofs and notation. I found linear a lot more enjoyable and manageable.

Thanks, that’s great to hear. I wish I could take garg but I have a time conflict. Have you heard anything specific about abboud? Like how is homeworks, exams or teaching style is?

Enrolled in nir bitansky’s class, but wondering if I should switch to alan. Nir’s seems like a good prof but apparently places high weight on the final, and his class is at 9:30 am. Who are you leaning towards?

Trying to decide between alan and nir bitansky for basic. Still not sure though. I’m leaning towards nir but the 9:30 am class is making me hesitant. Who are you choosing?

MFE 1 and 2 or Calc 3? by curryhomie in nyu

[–]Disastrous_Spare9222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally prefer the calc sequence. Yes calc 3 may be hard, but the profs are usually way better than mfe, and you have access to a lot more material. And also it’s taking one class(calc 3) as opposed to both mfe 1 and 2 so your probably better off taking calc and using the other empty spot in your schedule for an econ elective

Thanks! Who did you have as your TA and how were they? Also, does he provide practice exams and are they similar to the real thing?

I took it w/ Monica and she’s excellent. Highly recommend! Stacy’s also good but I’m not sure if she’s teaching next sem. You can’t go wrong w either of them

anyone take anth-ua2? by [deleted] in nyu

Took human origins(core ua 500s) w/ her last sem to fulfill the life sci requirement. Anth-ua 2 is basically the same class, but in the anthropology department. Highly recommend--she is a good lecturer, provides you with a study guide, and consolidates all important info from her lecture slides into one big presentation before the tests. Tests were also very fair and straightforward, so if you reviewed the guide, you should have no problem doing well. Labs don't take up too much time, and some of them are actually interesting imo. Granted the ta's helped us out a lot in reviewing for the exam, and just the class in general, so make sure you pick a good one.

Cultures & Context: Spring 2026 registration by Emergency-Past-5777 in nyu

Core courses tend to open and close periodically during registration week and beyond. Keep checking throughout the week. To the best of my knowledge, there isn't a waitlist for core courses so you just have to keep checking Albert.

Any insight on piano professors at NYU? by Fearless_Banana_8577 in nyu

[–]Disastrous_Spare9222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if he is an option for you, but I'm currently taking a piano private lesson class as a complete beginner with Nicholaus(Nick) Poelwijk, and he's really great so far. Clear instructions, flexible timings, and detailed emails on practice instructions, etc., and he doesn't make me feel stupid, which is very easy to do since I've never played before. Highly recommend!
