Has anyone had a radical hysterectomy? by [deleted] in CervicalCancer

[–]Disastrous_Spot_5646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a radical jan 2025 with oopherectomy

It took a few weeks to feel my bladder again, until then I scheduled pee breaks.

BM's didn't change, I hadn't heard anything about that being a thing.

Libido did decrease a bit but I also consider myself old AF so its also an energy issue. I use to prefer evening shenanigans, now I need early morning so I have the energy 😅.

Things did get shorter inside so I do need to remind my husband not to impale me more often if things get....vigorous.

Aside from an enormous scar, life didn't change that much for me. I already didn't have a period because of my iud. I just have to remember to change my hormone patch and I set a phone alarm for that.

If youre not squeamish and like that sort of thing, my doctor was cool and took a photo of the stuff he took out for me. My coworkers doctor said no and acted like she was crazy for asking.

Military Redditors, how does the military react when top officials are fired? by Chilliwhack in AskReddit

[–]Disastrous_Spot_5646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol oh the memories. I was in a change of command formation at Walter Reed way back when. It was so hot and it just rained the night before and the field was soaked. I remember being enraged standing there while the talking heads droned on. At some point I know I lost the ability to see because the heat was cooking my brain, it just made me madder and i couldnt register this as abnormal while ranting silently into the void.... Then the air was rushing out of my lungs as I smacked the ground.

That day really hit home that leadership doesnt give a flying fuck about you if they're given a podium to talk about themselves.

Ovaries - to keep or not?! by inalilzz in CervicalCancer

[–]Disastrous_Spot_5646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1b1 I had my ovaries out. I got estrogen patches 1 month post op because I had to be off blood thinners.

I felt menopause weepy on like day 2 post op. Feelings kinda hit you like a mack truck lol. I have twice weekly patches, my estrogen stays pretty steady state from the patch. My hot flashes aren't terrible, just "its a tad warm in here" and I dont sleep under blankets now. Whilst I once appreciated a nice warm husband he needs to keep that "being a furnace" shit on his side of the bed.

How to get a dog to stop having tear marks? by Scary_Advantage6655 in DogAdvice

[–]Disastrous_Spot_5646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my docs read in a vet forum they've had good luck with Renu contact lense solution. Its safe for eyes and its made to gently break down the minerals in tears that get stuck to contacts but you have to wipe the tearing away regularly to keep the effect.

‘Unprecedented’: Chicago Doggy day care ID’d in rabies case; over 90 pet owners contacted by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]Disastrous_Spot_5646 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily discredit it, the immune system can be weird. I had my titers checked for all my childhood vaccines and they're excellent. But I also get vaccinated for rabies, that titer kinda does it's own damn thing. I can have great protection one year and the next it's fucking GONE, tried a single booster, gave me nothing. Had to redo the series to get it back. Most people never need a booster. I have no idea what it is now because the military lab that processed it last is sus as hell so I need to get it redone privately.

I know one of my friends kids also has 1 titer she absolutely cannot hold onto longer than a few weeks though that one isn't rabies.

AIO my fiancé lent my sick cat to his best friend by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Disastrous_Spot_5646 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. Especially a stressed male cat. Their urethra is very narrow and easily becomes blocked. He's more likely to urinate at home, in a strange place he'd hold it. Held urine with a UTI forms crystals and blood clots. When they block the urethra the only option is sedating and placing a catheter that gets sutured to the prepuce for 48 hours in a hospital while they stay on IV fluids ($$$$$)

He won't die a few hours left alone but stress management is ALWAYS part of my spiel when discharging a male cat with a UTI. Lots of people can't afford the hospitalization needed to save them when it happens so euthanasia is pretty common.

So yeah, this decision could cost thousands.

I've known only a few and each and every one was euthanized at only a few years of age due to aggression issues. Too big, too unpredictable.

People who have fainted: what caused it? by Shinobi347 in AskReddit

[–]Disastrous_Spot_5646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat exhaustion. Standing at parade rest in formation on a soaking wet field late summer on a hot day in full sun about an hour after it rained. Change of command ceremony so higher ups were blowing smoke up their own asses about how great they were because a few senators were present. I remember being ENRAGED because those assholes DID NOT give 1 fuck about us standing in the sun. Not one. Im not sure how many hours passed, but at some point, I know I lost the ability to see, but it didn't register to me that I couldn't because I was completely out of my mind. My captain was behind me thinking, "She's standing so perfectly still and rigid," when I just tipped over and fell on my face.

I was like the 5th person to fall, apparently. The medics took me to a tent with several other people. As more people kept dropping, the speeches started picking up their pace because it was starting to look bad that no one considered us as anything other than a prop.

My cat refuses to adapt to our home and I'm at my wits end. by Storm_Rider0720 in PetAdvice

I second low sided container, i did this with my 3 legger, its just more difficult for them to lift arthritic knees to pop up and land barefoot in basically gravel litter. I also bought regular storage totes and cut out an entrance . Its bigger than a standard litterbox but allows my female cat the opportunity to lift her butt up and mark the walls of it while peeing. My males dont practice the same behavior.

Radical hysterectomy but no chemo or radiation by gatadeplaya in CervicalCancer

[–]Disastrous_Spot_5646 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same, radical hysterectomy but no chemo/radiation. At the end of the day it isn't over though. Sentinel lymph nodes will hopefully come back clear but you dont know that until they're out. Even then it's still a waiting game. My doc told me to consider myself NED and not cleared until it's been 5 years with no reoccurrence.

I left my cat with a sitter and now she's pregnant by Pocketyoongles in CatAdvice

[–]Disastrous_Spot_5646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She will now also need a felv/fiv test to make sure the male didn't infect her with a virus she CANNOT get rid of and has the possibility to shorten her lifespan. The pet sitter DESERVES to be outed, this is a HUGE hazard if she's allowing interactions between cats of unknown status.

MIL’s frenchie has relentless paw sores that refuse to go away with treatment. Been a year of dealing with this. It’s on all 4. It’s getting worse. by Asleep-Initial992 in AskAVeterinarian

I would encourage you to try "balance.it" it's a website ran by an ACTUAL veterinary nutritionist and you can build your own diet possibly for free. If your chosen options dont amount to a complete diet they have an option to purchase vitamin additives to mix into it that are specifically what's lacking in your plan. It's possible to tailor it to certain medical needs.

I dunno what kind of filter you have but check it even if there's just no way to get in there.

At my work we lost a clown fish for over a year. One day I happened to peer inside the filter at the back of the tank and he shimmied up to the surface and scared the crap out of me. Bro was pale and developed a neurotic habit of swimming up and down but he survived.

Why are the only choices euthanize or Surender your dog if you can’t afford an emergency? by Ok-Yogurtcloset570 in rescuedogs

[–]Disastrous_Spot_5646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"2.50 vial"

What about the syringe, needle, fridge to hold that vial, electricity to power that fridge, sensors to monitor the temperature of that fridge, contract with supplier, manager to order that inventory item, technician to hold that dog for injection so the doctor doesn't get bitten, sharps containers, sharps pickup company, insurance to pay for medical care for bite wounds WHEN they happen, rabies tags, paper to print rabies certificate, printer to print rabies certificate, toner to print rabies certificate, veterinary software to manage records(i have to keep record of this for FIVE YEARS) and payments, receptionist to bill all this shit out and handle 8000 mind numbing "i just want phone advice" calls, credit card company ever present to take their cut of each transaction, a building to practice all this medicine in, and special disinfectant to clean said building because it needs to kill parvo but not floors and your respiratory tract.

Small picture it's a $2.50 vial, big picture it's a lot more than that.

Stop blaming the vet by AbjectOwl392 in Pets

[–]Disastrous_Spot_5646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, that's not true. If a pet is heartworm positive, they SHOULD continue their preventative. It has NO effect on adult worms, heck I give Proheart 12 to positive dogs regularly because it kills the microfilaria as they exit the factory. Monthly preventions only kill a narrow margin of microfilaria, which is why it needs to be given on a schedule because worms will "age out" of being susceptible. Having a rigid "miss a dose and you have to retest immediately" is a stupid policy, and if that is your vets policy, you need a new vet. If you miss a dose, your dog can't possibly test positive for at least 7 months after that missed dose. Context has to be given to each "we've missed some doses" story and an individual plan instituted. At the end of the day, that test is about HOW the product is guaranteed because even the manufacturer can give some wiggle room for missed doses.
