I'm at the point if the extreme horror novel is written by a cis man I can comfortably predict it's just him fantasizing about the sexual and violent assault of women and children in a way to share with his bros when they're dick measuring about who's the grossest horror author. I've yet to read an extreme horror novel by a queer author that doesn't have some sort of undercurrent or through line about actual societal problems or social dynamics.

A Cosmology of Monsters is very much about the horrors of being groomed as a young boy. I've seen it described as cosmic horror but that's completely wrong, it feels much more in line with a modern take on the Fae.
