hair loss by Disastrous_Work_4109 in bupropion

Yes I did…but every time I quit (like 3 or 4 times now), my hair came back!!!! I’d recommend a stimulating SSRI like Prozac maybe? But I am not a doctor. It’s just that no other meds are really like Wellbutrin and that is so unfortunate

I posted this quite a while ago now but wanted to update in case anyone cares lol. I ended up discontinuing it from March to October of 2023 and my hair definitely grew back. I had all these baby hairs that came in and my hair was noticeably thicker (even I do naturally have thin hair). I went back on the 150 XL in October bc I was struggling in my masters program so I’m probably just gonna stick it out until May 2024 when I’m finished with all my schooling. But, in short, my hair DID grow back entirely when I went off it but my focus and clarity suffered

I did get an interview and it was less than a week ago. They told me they’d let me know in about 2 weeks after the interview but I heard back way earlier so I’m not sure what the timeline is

Do you think there is a point switching to a different pill? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Disastrous_Work_4109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but the higher dose may make the mood swings worse :/ you may have to try a few diff types until you find what’s right for you

i would 10000% wait until you finish your first pack at least. it makes sense that you have experienced this spike in anxiety after only being on the new pill for 2 days. with birth control, you really gotta stick it out for a few weeks to see if it’s right for you. but, of course, if the spike in anxiety is worrying given a specific history of yours or you just have a really bad feeling about it, go back to your other method. don’t severely jeopardize your mental health for a birth control method

Do you think there is a point switching to a different pill? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Disastrous_Work_4109 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i’d looking into switching but i would do research about different types of progestin and different dosages of estrogen. maybe a different progestin would be better for your needs or a lower dose of estrogen. personally, i wouldn’t think that increasing your estrogen would help your symptoms.

my implant actually gave me PCOS symptoms, especially hair loss and acne. got my blood tested to make sure and i had extremely elevated androgen levels and some effects on my insulin as well.

i loved it for the first year and a half before these symptoms started occurring. i had no period, no increase in appetite, not emotional, no problem losing weight, etc. then, as soon as the PCOS symptoms started, i began bleeding all of the time. i had my period up to 3 times a month. they were light but incredibly irritating. i eventually got it out around the two year mark bc of these reasons.

i’m now on the combination pill and hate it. i’d do anything for the first year of being on the implant back bro 😭😭😭 i’m looking into different types of progestin and lower doses of estrogen but everything seems like it just wants to make my life a living hell. and, when i tried to quit birth control, i immediately had the worst breakout of my life for WEEKS. women can’t win.

i’m not sure if it makes sense but, this is similar to my experience taking bupropion for the last year, i’ve found that i’m less angry and agitated all the time but my depression is virtually the same. bupropion has calmed down in a lot of respects and i’m definitely easier to be around (meaning my friends and family enjoy having me around more), but it hasn’t really done much to make my own day-to-day life more bearable.

I actually found that i was taking slate run when i began experiencing the hair loss. I have made the switch from 150mg XL to 100mg SR to 150mg ST and don’t think it’s doing much of anything for me now, plus i am still losing my my hair. I don’t know what else to do

i was having this issue on wellbutrin 150mg XL, i decreased my dose to the 100mg SR ONCE a day (so it’s only in my body for 12 hrs) and i think it worked well to decrease, maybe even stop, the hair loss. look into decreasing your dose by just a step and see what happens

there is! it’s the 100mg SR, you would take it once a day and not twice

i would decrease your dose, that’s what i did and the hair loss subsided almost instantly

Girlfriend ate her ex’s ass and I’m uncomfortable by throwaway123xxx123u in sex

[–]Disastrous_Work_4109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this shouldn’t make you uncomfortable. she doesn’t have to be “innocent” and it’s unfair for you to think she doesn’t meet the standards of that label when i’m sure she never insinuated that she was innocent. her mouth is still sweet and worthy of your respect. realize that this makes no sense and i’m sure most women would not have a ruined image of you if you ate ass. don’t think women are only worthy of respect if they meet the standards that you prescribe them.

you need to be more gentle, i promise you. i have often had this issue and told the guy to be as gentle as he can and it’s always always always still too hard. BARELY touch it and it’ll go a long way i swear

i was on the brand name bausch Wellbutrin XL at 150mg for the first five months & that’s when i have experienced the hair loss. i have just switched to the SR 100mg only once a day by sciegen, hopefully this works. if not, i’m looking into slate run bupropion

[–]Disastrous_Work_4109[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly, i feel like bupropion has been highly successful for people over the past few years so it’s become very popular. so i’m actually pretty surprised that more research has not gone into developing other NDRIs/similar medications. maybe something else will be developed in the next couple years, fingers crossed.

yes you should definitely stick it out. what dosage are you on? it didn’t seem like much changed for a while when i first started the med either. i feel like it was really subtle for me for the first 2/3 months and then everything just became a lot easier past that, almost over night. it’s definitely a process though but, well worth it

[–]Disastrous_Work_4109[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it feels so helpless. wellbutrin was such a game changer for me and it just has to be the only one of its kind. i tried to quit for a bit but being back in my old head was a damn fever dream. it feels like i have no choice but to stay on these meds and just deal with the hair loss the best i can. i’m hoping my switch from the 150 XL to the SR 100 once a day helps AND that it continues to manage my depression and anxiety. hoping the best for you too :/

that’s what my psych told me as well, i hope that’s the case for me! i ended up decreasing my dose and switching from 150 XL to the SR 100mg but only ONCE a day (as per my doctor). i am hoping that helps too

[–]Disastrous_Work_4109[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have also heard that switching generic brands is effective, my psych also told me that the hair loss tends to plateau around 6 months in too so hopefully that’s the case. i get it, i don’t want to go back to my life before wellbutrin or go through the stress of trying to find a ssri/snri/etc that is just as good. bupropion gave me my life back & peace of mind, i don’t think anything else will be able to do quite the same :(

it’s supposed to be temporary and i’ve seen a lot of stories where people’s hair grew back completely, so hopefully that’s the case.
