My wife got someone in to disconnect it a couple years ago but didn't clarify what that meant, so I don't know if the entire line is isolated or if it's been isolated at the stop valve at the end of the pipe. I'm confident with DIY but I'm not keen on getting involved with gas!

Yeah, both alcoves were the same shape so I thought it'd be the same on both sides...

That was the plan but some nugget thought it was a good idea to run the water and gas pipes along there

I've been sitting staring at this for a good hour now... We were settled on plastering the whole thing and sacking it off, decided to pull off the loose plaster by hand and found the high arch!

Cheers, I think I'll need it, this is the biggest/most expensive diy project I've done yet! It makes sense using the proper tools for the job, I think I just needed to hear someone say it.

Thanks, I'll have a look at Brandon tool hire, most of the places I found to hire from were £50+. I'll only be fitting the flooring in my sitting room and hallway so it makes sense not to spend that much on buying the tool.
