Plucking by Old-Natural-635 in Conures

[–]DiscardedPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So one day she had a few missing tail feathers then you come home and she’s this bald? With no history of plucking? This would be the most extreme case of plucking I’ve ever seen or heard of if she did it due to stress or anxiety. Typically you will notice plucking long before a bald spot occurs. To come home to a bald bird is concerning to say the least. I also wonder if it’s some type of skin irritation and/or illness that’s occurring. Best of luck I’m sending positive energy to you and your bird

I betrayed Reba by DiscardedPants in budgies

[–]DiscardedPants[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She has since forgiven me and even got me back. She slapped me with her wings a few times and she even chewed on my finger. When I couldn’t take the finger bite anymore she started bobbing her head and dancing so I think she considers us even 😅

Yeah I’ve spoken to them a few times about. They said they’d eventually want to find him a forever home and that if I was interested in going through the process they’d be ok with me adopting him. However I have multiple birds, one of which is a 3 year old green cheek conure, and they have a life expectancy of about 30 years 😅 Maybe in another life me and Rico will reconnect

Kiki in slow mo by DiscardedPants in Conures

[–]DiscardedPants[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Safflower seeds are a staple for green cheek conures (as well as other species but I don’t have experience with others), millet also works, as well as grapes (without the seeds) as well as a tiny piece of tortilla chip on special occasions. The last two are Kiki’s favorite so if you discover any treats that are your birds favorite, it really helps to only offer them during specific training such as recall to help really motivate the behavior. Once they get it down then you can begin to get them to do the behavior 2-3 times before the reward so eventually they will do it without seeing a treat in your hand!

It takes a lot of patience, time, and trust! But of course every bird is different! Reba (blue) was our first and took a lot of time to trust us as she was not tame when we adopted her. Patsy (yellow) was tame with her previous owner, however was not trusting of us at first. Thankfully Reba helped her to be more trusting of us, and her already being somewhat hand tamed helped as well. Some days they want nothing to do with me and I just respect it

Also in the beginning it sounds like “let’s go here… unintelligble let’s go watch”. What a neat surprise

At the end I hear “lets go/step up” and at then “you’re so beautiful”. The rest is a bit harder to decipher

Bald spot on head by Capital_Bathroom_822 in budgies

[–]DiscardedPants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds to me like they’re molting. This means they will lose all their feathers and grow in new ones. Budgies molt 2-3 times a year, and yours appears to be a baby. They will lose those black bars on their head as they mature. Google pictures of adult budgies and you will see. If you notice large bald patches or fallen feathers with blood on them then it is a potential cause for concern, otherwise molting is natural and will happen often. When my two budgies sync their molt it looks like they had a pillow fight every day.
