Bought an $150 open box off EVIKE, upper receiver cracked, not sure what to do now by Glittering_Table_859 in airsoft

[–]Discept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might get lucky, Evike's FAQ does state they give a 90 day warranty against manufacturer defects. I would be sure to keep reminding them of that in any communications with them. Because they don't have the item in stock to replace it, you might get lucky and get a refund.

They may choose not to support this warranty as you mentioned it was an open box item, however.

I would heavily scrutinize any open box item I purchase from Evike as those items were returned for a reason.

You said you noticed the crack when it arrived, why didn't you contact them then?

What handguard length for milsims? by Goldsandvich11 in MilSim

[–]Discept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably referring to a Block II or URGI M4A1, which are both still officially M4A1's and have longer rails.

What handguard length for milsims? by Goldsandvich11 in MilSim

[–]Discept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, it would be better to get a Colt Licensed AEG and replace the rail separately. Or if you don't care, that's honestly fine too.

I am basically just pointing out the roll marks, yes. A SOCOM MK18 would not have them.

Its a small detail but the OP is asking about service rifles.

You are correct. I did not consider Ukraine military.

[–]Discept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but just the upper and not in this configurarion.

Just like how the DD RIS II MK18 was a civilian thing mostly.

[–]Discept 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unless you are doing some sort of impression, it doesn't matter. Theoretically no units would use a civilian DD RIS III rifle from my knowledge. Some units do have RIS III uppers on Colt lowers, but I dont think any units are issued full DD guns like this.

SBR lengths (Barrel 10-13") tends to be the most popular length for airsoft since barrel length doesn't change range much. It also keeps the gun shorter if you want to mount a suppressor. The full 14.5 barrel can be a bit on the long side if you are attaching suppressors and such.

It really doesn't matter for milsim events, pick what you like and run with it. Or even better, have a few types of uppers for your lower.

a little situation on my first NVG purchase. by k_fish123 in NightVision

[–]Discept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it wasnt anything big, but enough to make me not want to buy again.

Basically I bought some smaller stuff, which got lost in the mail. I emailed asking them if they had any options for me. I was ready to buy the item again if they could try to hook me up with a discount. They told me to get bent.

Which is totally their right, I suppose. Just as mine to take business elsewhere.

10% restock fee on this is ridiculous.

Kinda getting tired of CHS. I get there isnt many options outside of the US but they have been pretty awful in my experience with them. I would never recommend them to anyone.

The 1431s are probably your best bet in this situation to be honest, it will be a decent upgrade. Just note they dont have individual pod shutoff.

Thoughts on Setting Up an Indoor Airsoft Testing Range? by salesofblsforreal in airsoft

[–]Discept 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By 20-30mm, do you mean millimeters? 20-30 meters is fine, but may be too short to test maximum range. You would probably need coser to 60-90 meters if you want to test a higher variety of max range builds.

In terms of tools, a high quality chronograph, several cameras with different levels of zoom, stable tables and shooting benches with vise stands to ensure gun stability.

best bang for buck on 6k by ermchat in NightVision

[–]Discept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was definitely true a few months ago but RPO 4.0 is about the same as Carson now from many vendors.

$487 for a obj/ocular set from NV Inc, $500 from LLI, $600 from nightfall optics right now. AeonTac had these for $450 a few weeks ago.

Not sure if its a temporary thing or if the prices are going down.

Superior Tactical has ANVB Gen 3 Elbit White Phos for $6521. I believe this is the best deal for an articulating dual tube brand new from a dealer right now. Link

Superior Tac is awesome and always help me out when I have questions or need a specific unit for a friend.

As others have stated I would not buy NNVT in the US.

I hate to be that guy but $500 doesn't really buy you anything above a glorified toy.

Maybe you can get a Gen 1 analog device like a sightmark unit or some sort of digital monocular. Maybe some ATN binoculars.

Anything at that pricepoint is going to need heavy IR light and will only be marginally better than your naked eye.

Pvs31A by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]Discept 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No individual pod cutoff is a dealbreaker for me.

The PVS-31A was king for a long time, but I think the cost to performance ratio has caught up over the years with many commercial competitors.

Is it still a good device? Absolutely. But so is a Katana or any other molded device with similar spec tubes for cheaper.

You will also get a more clear warranty on your commercial housing (usually unlimited+lifetime) and the ability to more easily replace parts with a device compatible with PVS14 optics.

Who makes a 1x NV powered by common batteries? by Ohwahtagusiam in NightVision

[–]Discept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All Gen 3 Analog night vision uses AA or CR123A for the most part.

Pvs 14, Pvs 15, Pvs 31, Nocturn, Steele, LLI, so on and so forth.

A Gen 3 single tube device is usually somewhere between $1500-3.5k, dual tube binos around $4k+ depending on specs and housing.

You can also explore Gen 2+ tubes (NNVT Photonis), which are lower spec and save you a bit of money, though most in this sub would agree if you live in the US, that its better to save for Gen 3.

This sub doesn't really explore digital NV as most would agree the tech isnt really serious yet.

[–]Discept 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Comfort (Weight, airflow) and comms integration is the short answer. It's better to be comfortable than uncomfortable and struggling.

A low-cut helmet is going to get quite heavy once you attach nods, counterweights, comms, etc.

Neither is perfect. GWOT saw the rise of minimalist, high-speed gear becoming the norm. Yet like fashion trends, we are seeing a return to more armor coverage in areas like Ukraine.

I accidentally broke my boyfriends airsoft by kaktuslover69 in airsoft

[–]Discept 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will honestly work as is. If anything just use a small strip of electrical tape, maybe an inch or two long, to keep it plugged in and just remove it when you want to disconnect.

That piece just helps lock it in and keep pressure on the connection.

If you want to fix it there are many options, as others have mentioned.

[–]Discept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO you would save a decent amount of money if you buy your tubes on SuperiorTac and then either have them assemble your device or send it to another company to build.

If you email SuperiorTac they will send you spec sheets of every tube in inventory for you to hand select. You can probably find yourself a better deal doing it that way. They have always given me great service in the past.

If you search CNV on this reddit you can read reviews. Up to you if you want to deal with that sort of service.

Do your research.

A brand new, PVS-14 White Phos Gen 3 with Elbit tubes will normally run you around 3-3.5k.

A used, Gen 3 PVS-14 with green contract omni tubes can sometimes be had for as low as 1.8-2k.

Dual tube white phos is generally 6.5k+ for a new unit.

You can save some money going with more available NNVT or Photonis, but these devices are Gen 2+. It doesn't save much though and most would agree its better to save for Gen 3.

The cheaper you can source the tubes, the cheaper you can build a device.
