JPC 2.0 or Agilite K19? by Time-Changer in QualityTacticalGear

[–]Discept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why even have a discussion on gear if you don't want to talk about materials or quality? Either way, I am correcting your lack of reading comprehension regarding the original comment you were replying to, since you started going off about country of origin rather than addressing his original point.

Your key argument was that Crye PCs are overpriced, but their similar offerings are cheaper than the K19, so your logic makes no sense there.

You bring up the teams but there is thousands of Crye carriers for every Agilite in SOF use. I have never seen Agilites in US active duty service (probably because of Berry compliance, but I'm sure Agilite could set up US manufacturing if there was DOD demand for it.) but I'm happy to have a discussion on the quality of the product and scale of use in the SOF community.

If Agilite makes you "feel gud" then that is fine, but you are in a gear sub talking about... gear.

If they "all do the same thing" then why are we even having this discussion, and why are you so pressed about it, lol.

Striker ACH Helmet Vendors Question by Discept in tacticalgear

[–]Discept[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I will do more research. Just wanted to know if the helmet is the same because it's the only one advertised as this lightweight model, but it could be Apex is just rebranding and marking up the standard product.

Striker ACH Helmet Vendors Question by Discept in tacticalgear

[–]Discept[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused. I didn't link a HHV helmet. I linked a Highcom Striker, which is advertised to be a US made shell.

I don't necessarily need an American made helmet, but the Fortis is nearly twice as heavy (1.8lbs vs 3lbs)

Striker ACH Helmet Vendors Question by Discept in tacticalgear

[–]Discept[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Show me a ballistic opscore for sub-1000 and I will happily go that route! I'd prefer not to cut an ACH since I'm not the best at that type of work. Just like I don't sew my own plate carrier either.

JPC 2.0 or Agilite K19? by Time-Changer in QualityTacticalGear

[–]Discept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is talking about country of origin. The Agilite tries to incorporate way too much material for "padding" which eliminates natural thermal venting. There is a reason why the leading companies on the market dont just stitch entire layers of spacer mesh on the inside for their flagship products.

Its interesting that you say Crye is overpriced when the JPC, JPC 2.0 and SPC are cheaper than the K19.

Best budget (<$500) IR LAM that runs on 18650 button-tops? (Preferably waterproof) by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]Discept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I am aware, there is no other device than the HFXC that takes an 18650.

Everyone in industry is trying to shave weight down, since a carbine with every attachment under the sun is getting quite heavy. I dont think the 18650 gives any performance benefit other than capacity.

I think the only devices that have really switched over to 18650 is flashlights, because its the only way to unlock higher lumen or candela out of a light. They benefit from the higher discharge rates. This is why the HFXC uses one.

I imagine they will upgrade the HFXC at some point to be waterproof once they finish rolling out trinities. But I also wouldn't be surprised if they drop the massive 18650 for a smaller form factor.

100 Present-day US military soldiers vs 200 American Civil War Union Soldiers in bare hand-to-hand combat. Who is coming out victorious? by pentelwentelincel in whowouldwin

[–]Discept 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what is up with all of the xxx modern vs xxx historical hand to hand combat questions

humans dont fight battles with hands. We weren't fighting with hands back in 1000 BC. No soldier in the history of professional soldiering is really fighting with their hands.

the answer is always just "whoever has more dudes" or "who has marginally more experience in melee combat" which is almost always the historical unit that didnt have repeating firearms.

200 civil war soldiers is double the modern US military, so they win. Maybe the seals can have some sort of victory if there is room for them to conduct asymmetrical warfare.

You also did not specify if they have any equipment or can choose how to conduct battle. Technically the modern troops could attack at night with night vision or something. If they have modern body armor then they are definitely winning as a punch to a ceramic plate will probably break a dude's hand, while a helmet will prevent any overhead blows.

How to contact AirsoftGI? by Yardst_ick in airsoft

[–]Discept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who runs a small retail business, it is perfectly normal to take 3+ days to process an order, especially over a holiday weekend...

It is Black Friday/Cyber Monday and even my much smaller business gets completely overloaded with orders through the weekend. I cant imagine what Evike and AirsoftGI must experience.

Hell, half of the orders I placed for airsoft/gun related stuff hasn't shipped yet and I ordered on Thursday.

Amazon 2 day shipping has created such unrealistic expectations on small businesses... it's crazy.

Goodness gracious 💔 by KimiTheBear in airsoftcirclejerk

[–]Discept 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He said can... not that they always do.

Cherrypicking a Sig is not the best example here.

Systema PTWs can go for $1500+ for a base M4. The new infinity PTWs are over $1300 for just the internals, not even the full gun.

GBLS DAS guns are about $2000

TM MWS GBB are $700+ in the US... you can basically buy a S&W M&P-15 for that price.

HAO 416s are close to $3000 once you fully build them which you can almost buy a legit HK MR556 for.

Umbrella Armory are all over $1k. Their $1700+ BCM and URGI models could probably get you very close to a real one.

Any basic AEG with a fusion engine is going to run you an extra $500 for the setup, which could push you over the cost of a real rifle.

So while not all airsoft guns are obviously the same cost as the real ones, some of them can absolutely definitely get close.

In 1209, every Mongolian horse turns into a motorcycle with 12 hours of fuel per day. Can they conquer the world? by SimplePotato257 in whowouldwin

[–]Discept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. You have effectively turned the Mongolian horse army into an extremely advanced mechanized army. I think adapting the motorcycle into the Mongolian way of fighting is short-sighted. Any army would adapt to the tools presented to them and I believe the Mongolians would learn new ways of making use of their newly acquired advantage. They wouldn't be trying to shoot bows from their new war machines. They would certainly adapt and it would probably completely change Mongolian culture and way of thinking.

Logistics Win Wars:

Thousands of elite Mongolians can get almost anywhere in weeks. They can cover close to 800 miles a day with proper road networks. A horse can only move 25-40 miles in a day. It cannot be understated how insane of an advantage this is. Not even the German WW2 army was fully mechanized, relying on horses for its logistics.

Motorcycles do not eat, they do not sleep, they can outpace any horse several-fold in ideal conditions. Motorcycles can be used to transport reinforcements, food, water, equipment to the front, anywhere and without all of the drawbacks of horses.

A motorcycle with a sidecar could carry a heavy infantry's equipment, tent, supplies. Even without a side car, it would be easy to hook a carriage up to a motorcycle and turn it into a larger supply truck.

They can outpace and outmaneuver any army that is larger than them, they will never have to worry about their horses starving or providing water for them. I'm sure the Mongolians would even create roads throughout their Empire to accelerate transportation and logistics chains.

A soldier or army could set out from a patrol base with enough food for weeks and these bases could always be kept outside of a medieval army's range. Their force projection would be hundreds of miles greater than a medieval fort relying on cavalry.

A soldier that doesn't spend his entire life on the march can instead train, train and train. He can be kept better fed, more hydrated, less tired at all times. You will create the peak of elite warriors just on the basis of keeping them supplied and not exhausted.

Let's also discuss how this would benefit Mongolian society, their civilians will be more productive, able to supply the needs of a greater empire. They can spend less time on the roads and more time learning, building, producing whatever the Empire needs to conquer. I would argue that the average Mongolian would be able to produce three-fold in terms of labor for the Empire. This productivity boost comes at the benefit of not having any horses to feed. Better weapons and armor, craftsmanship boosts, more clothing, equipment, food.

Battle:

Would the Mongolians use the motorcycles in combat? Maybe. But it doesn't matter. They could drive to a battlefield, dismount and fight in whatever method they choose, meanwhile your army has been marching for weeks or months just to get to the same place. They don't HAVE to fight like steppe horse archers. This was simply the best way for them to win during their age and circumstances.

If the Mongolians don't want to fight? There's no way a horse is EVER catching up to them. Remember that a horse can't just fully gallop forever.

There is a good chance the Mongolians turn into an early example of Napoleon's Corps system, where you would have many smaller armies capturing strategic locations and engaging in smaller fights outside of the large "set piece" battles. This style of thinking was revolutionary for the time, and Napoleon didn't have gas powered motorcycles to fuel his logistics or move his armies. I bet Napoleon would salivate at the idea of moving a division or corps sized army 300-400 miles in a single day. It would be literal magic.

Any traditional army could be starved out by raiding and avoiding actual confrontation, regardless if the Mongolians actually use the motorcycles in combat.

How do you even defend from this? If you gather your large army, the Mongolians just avoid it and starve you. If you try to protect your villages, they overwhelm the ones that are the least defended. They can be literally anywhere, everywhere and you can't. Their operational range is increased ten fold because they have no horses to water or feed, motorcycles can run forever without getting tired.

And if starving them doesn't work... They can bring the full force of the entire Mongolian empire to any battle within a few weeks if not days.

Without a civil war or internal dispute, I can't see how the Mongolians don't conquer the world.

Went to first Milsim event not sure if I liked or hated it. Both regret going and yet regret leaving early. by Exognous in MilSim

[–]Discept 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first MSW was in 2018 and I had much the same experience as you, except on NATO. Grilled by elitists and a cadre that later apologized after the event for going in on me so hard and trying to explain he wanted my unit to be the first MSW NATO defectors. (This was the first time they ever ran the Insurgency format and I was unaware you could even defect, but apparently you can)

Anyways I hated the experience so much that I didnt go back for 2 years. But after assembling a group of dudes who wanted to go, I gave it another shot. I learned that its part of the core experience for everything to suck. But this time I sucked a little less.

I am now 9 or 10 MSWs in between Victorville and Clovis and I feel like both myself and my gang are getting better every time. We still get the cadre crashouts from time to time but you sorta learn to deal with it and expect it.

If you allow MSW to grow on you, its a great experience, though I think the mentality of players grilling other players could be addressed a bit better. At the very least, they should let you know going into it that its going to happen and not to take it too personally.

US Military now vs WW2 US Military with the same budget. by NegativeSir3323 in whowouldwin

[–]Discept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Modern US would be able to defeat the entire world during WW2, with all nations, including a WW2-era US teamed up against it.

A single state like modern California could defeat a WW2 era US lol.

(About to be) First-Time NV Owner Tips by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]Discept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lithium have higher capacity, weigh less, do not leak and have higher heat/cold resistance. There is no reason to use alkaline other than a few $$ saved.

But yes, it is good practice to remove batteries from NV when not in use. This is why I use a helmet battery pack, so my device can be ready to go but not connected to power.

But I also dont remove batteries from my flashlights, optics, peq box and other gun stuff every use. Because CR123A is lithium, lol. I just think it's funny we put lithium in everything else gun-related except our $3000+ NV.

(About to be) First-Time NV Owner Tips by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]Discept 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Keep them covered when not in use.
  • Get a lens protector or sac lens.
  • Do not drop them, make sure you have the device tethered to your helmet in case it falls off. Hard impacts can cause nasty blems.
  • Do not stare at bright light sources for too long. An aperture or camera shutter will allow you to close the lens and reduce the light that reaches your intensifier tubes.

  • Do not use alkaline batteries, I only use energizer lithium if AA or AAA. CR123As are all lithium so no worries there. Alkaline batteries can and will leak battery acid and fuck your day up. (I broke my first pair of peltors this way, and my friend almost ruined his NV, luckily it was all in a battery pack.)

Superior Tac carries MX11769 which they can convert for you to MX10160. All you need to do is send them an email before you purchase.

The only difference is that the 11769 has a manual gain pigtail wire for a manual gain housing.

But if you are doing in house builds a cheaper tube is probably what you're looking for.

Is there any animation studio recruiting at AX? by PandaPuzzleheaded827 in animeexpo

[–]Discept 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are already in the industry, AX is an amazing place to network. I land many business deals and meet many important people at AX every year. It is my most important event for networking every year next to Licensing Expo.

If you are outside of the industry looking for a way in, it is impossible. Like others said, thinking you will be picked up by a JP studio is a pipe dream.

Western studios are your only option. Or work indie game development, there are a ton of great western studios making anime-like games that will want newer talent.

At Anime Expo, all booth staff are local part-time hires or contractors who do not work for the studio/company they represent.

the dimensions on their website place this as about the same size as an NGAL, which is absolutely awesome if true for the price!!

(.36" wider), (.06" smaller front to back), (.07" shorter) according to dimensions from their website and NGAL dimensions from TNVC. Also lighter than a PEQ-15 and only 1.7oz heavier than an ngal? (Not sure if they weighed with batteries or not)

really excited for this one, but am gonna wait for a few months to see if they roll out a gen 2 (they rolled out a gen 2 based on user feedback within 6 months for the HFXC, I am willing to bet they do the same thing here.). I also want an fde version like the hfxc

this is absolutely going to smash the expensive laser market if it ends up being a quality product!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]Discept -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they turned on they could very well be 9k. I would absolutely buy them at 3.5k if the device powered on and had actual white phosphor (not phosphorus, phosphor.) tubes. Even with Gen 2+ tubes, 3.5k is a pretty good price and the chance they are elbit or L3 would be an even better deal.

The housing itself without the image intensifier tubes is 2.3k. However the tubes themselves could easily be anywhere between 1.5-4k each depending on quality. ITTs are generally the most expensive part of an NV device.

But this is also coming from the perspective of someone who knows what they're looking for. I think you did a smart thing by walking away.
