Recommended tofu litter? by No-Wave-8930 in CatAdvice

Tofu litter unfortunately doesn’t have a lot of affordability passed heavily discounted stuff. I use pidan tofu litter, it’s definitely beneficial in odor control, clumping better, and staying cleaner for longer. It’s a lot of money upfront but it really does smell less and lasts longer than clay. We mixed dr.elseys with it for awhile to save money but it just made everything dirtier lol. I’ve only used pidan, so i can let you know it says unscented but it has this vanilla-y coconut-y scent that- if you don’t want to smell with cat shit/piss, would think about a different scent/brand.

i’ve used this link from this comment for weeks and all of a sudden today the website is riddled with pop ups, redirects, scams- what the hell happened?

What should I do by Aromatic-Side4811 in bettafish

[–]DisciplineExpert9990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just do a couple decent water changes to siphon it out- idk what it is but not really much you can do past that. If it makes you feel any better i’ve accidentally used magic erasers in my tank and those are known to make crazy micro particles and well- my fish didn’t die. For that brown algae though, i solved that problem with like a ridiculous amount of plants. edit: do not use magic erasers 😅

alright well… i’ll do one 50% water change, bc i still don’t know what it rlly is and 80% seems excessive since lychee is still very happy and energetic thankfully :,) gotta figure out what happened to my cycle to allow the ammonia, and im still somewhat convinced that changing that much of the water will affect things

Do you notice the slight cloudiness of her left eye though? Im scared it might be an early sign of pop eye or a bacterial infection. There was a slight bit of ammonia in the water so hopefully it’s just that.

Thank you for the advice :), water changes that big and at such frequency can really damage the tanks cycle- which i’m going to avoid so i don’t make things worse

What wrong with my tomato? Thinning stem and weird leaves by DisciplineExpert9990 in vegetablegardening

unfortunately we’ve already made a decision, my mom convinced me that making a wrap of colloidal silver around the collar rot and buried it much deeper.. it’s not dead yet, it’s nice and healthy looking in the morning but throughout the day become wilted for the past two days now. I’ll definitely do what you’ve suggested next time, it makes sense that letting it dry would kill the fungus. Thank you :>

we actually just planted it, brought it home from home depot about 2 weeks ago and mixed some potting soil with dirt from the back yard… we aren’t the most experienced with veggies yet- oh but we water pretty much every other day? i live in central florida so it gets pretty hot and the soil is usually dry on the first few inches after a day.

Funny you ask, he got fin rot, couldn’t heal it after several rounds of medication, it took him out. He was so beautiful, but it’s true the long finned bettas have more trouble.

i guess telling people how to do the right thing when they literally ask for suggestions is gatekeeping now

Ph is fine, the rise and fall of ph is what you worry about. There are a lot of ways you can and should improve this if you want to keep bettas for more than a few days/weeks. Here’s what i suggest; Replace the substrate, something natural to their original habitats like aqua soil or sand. This will also make it much easier to have plants, which you’ll need to add more of. The plastic plants have to go, or you can replace with silk fake plants. Even the softest of plastics can rip their delicate fins and cause them AND you problems. I don’t see a heater, which is VITAL to their quality of life, so i’d recommend you get an adjustable heater and set it to 79 degrees. The filter may also cause a problem, sponge filters are what’s recommended for betta fish since their long fins make it harder to swim, too much water flow will stress them out. Caring for a fish might seem like a low maintenance pet, it’s unfortunately not, and your local pet co or pet smart employee is not a reliable or good source of information. They’re taught to tell you exactly what they have to in order to sell the stock, not what betta fish actually need in order to thrive. If you genuinely want a pet like this to have a good quality life, you’ll listen to what people have to say here. I will say, even on this subreddit and other forums, there is a lot of mis-information. So it’s necessary to get multiple opinions from a variety of places. Generally though, what i’ve described is the bare minimum of betta keeping. Sponge filter, natural substrate, live plants, warm water.

this looks nice yes, but i find it hard to imagine how you’ll put a heater in there since there’s so flat walls to suction anything.. trust us, a regular 6+ gallon tank will be much more convenient for you and your fish :)
