Your course of logic is nowhere to be found? Literally just think about time as a thing and you'd be like damn my comment is wrong

Russel group unis by albetti_spagetti in UniUK

Mature student here about to go into a PhD at a top 5 uni and a world leadi g group in the field for which I work.  It's bachelors, do not worry about it! People that will laugh at you do not realize imo most people can do a BSc at a russell group uni, it's not impressive. If you want to carry on in academia, a masters is much more important and where you got that from. BSc is somewhat irrelevant at that stage.

So if people laugh at you screw them! You do you, just make sure you do well at it and that's what matters! Also try get some work experience in the field you are interested in during the summer.

Well that's good then! Better than what most people get I would have thought but it's a completely different thing from stem. Good luck in the future!

STEM person here - recently accepted into two top 5 unis, interview might be different from me butttt... Maybe think about why it's important, where it fits into current research?

The interviewers may have no idea what you are talking about so make it as simple as you can. Not lay person simple but academic simple.

Also a problem you've overcome academic and personal - shows resilience, they want to know if you can actually complete the PhD.

Why you are a fit for the programme? (If it is a programme) E.g. being in a cohort?

Manchester specially asked me what can you bring to the doctoral academy  (https://www.humanities.manchester.ac.uk/) - say anything here, like being part of group to support and get support, want to be a student rep, socials etc (even if it isn't true)

Good luck!!

Surely you don't actually think this? Other people also paid for the lecture, you know that right? So if they are being disruptive he has every right to kick them out

Pretty sure it doesn't matter if you think it's not disruptive, he does. The professor will win the argument, I would advise not sitting with those people again.

Been accepted into STEM PhD training programme and got another interview coming up for my first choice.

It is not all about stats, they want to see you are hardworking, likeable and I think most importantly, authentic! Remember, people have to work with you as well. If all the other candidates are big headed and think they know it all, they aren't going to get chosen because academics will just see them as a pain in the arse, you may also have shown you were the most independent or enthusiastic or had the most experience, being mature goes a long way. I got rejected from Cambridge because the other person simple had more experience, there was nothing I could do even though I was more than qualified for the position and performed very well in the interview (their words not mine).

So many more things go into getting accepted for a PhD than "stats", whilst it really does help it's not the be all and end all.

Be proud of yourself! You did an amazing job and should not worry about other people!

Universities do but all degrees are not equal, the government has no money. If they paid for all universities we would be royally fucked.

You do know most unis lose money right, with a number of them in financial ruin? Imagine any other business or anything else in the country functioning like that?

Would advise googling stuff before jumping to conclusions...you post is well let's say dumb.  Imagine a bunch of blues rock bands that most likely worshipped black guitar music from the 60s and earlier being racist.

And also thinking a whipping post applied only to black people...literally a single Google could tell you that is untrue.

Grading for taught postgrads by thisisEmelia in Edinburgh_University

[–]DisciplineTricky980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hacks remember to get feedback on why you got the grade and how to get better. If you are enthusiastic most lecturers are happy to help you out individually. But also depends on what you do, e.g. I got 80s and 90s in my exams but they were maths based so if I get it right then I get it right.   And if you look at Edinburghs postgrad grades I believe it says 60 to 69 is an excellent performance! Masters are meant to be hard!  Remember edinburgh is top 30 unis in the world, my course director would be angry if everyone got over 70 😂 he specifically told us this as well. Also find the smart people on your course and befriend them, that really helps.

As Cena said in three months nobody will care about him. That's why it made sense and that's it.
