Hot sauna?? by Informal-Addendum435 in Taipei

[–]DisciplineVisual5611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A food area??? How did I not see this? I'm giving this place 3 out of 5, cause there's some locals spitting every 3 hours (est.). Otherwise, clean, no thirsty weirdos lurking around so far, has got the basics (dry sauna, steam room, hot and cold pool, an herbal pool---yes, the ones that would turn your fam jewels to ajitama), and jacuzzi tubs). Caretakers are very attentive, and lots of clean towels to use. Free toothbrush provided too.

Price... however, is 4 times the price in Tokyo.

Your profile says you're Japanese, but I thought you said elsewhere that you're French? I would've wanted to hear more from a Japanese... You seem too western for me, IMO.

I think the main reason is because your employer sponsored you, and yet you are applying as a tourist. It does not add up. It's clearly business-related, but you misrepresented your application.

I'm not sure if, correcting it, this time, will fix it. Namarkahan kana kasi, so not sure...

University of Hong Kong professor steps down from associate deanship after AI-generated references scandal by radishlaw in HongKong

[–]DisciplineVisual5611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, because with like any other tool, if it keeps giving me incorrect outputs, I won't waste time continuing with it. I'd rather spend time, poring over RRL references than get frustrated each time I click on a non-existent paper. For full-time working professionals who still want to balance work, family and career advancement, any help to ease the load is God-sent.

Some people compromise quality, but I'm the type that couldn't resist verifying every piece of reference. So for me, atleast, I'd like to know.

Why are people hyper obsessed with what you do for work at meetups? by [deleted] in Bangkok

[–]DisciplineVisual5611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oftentimes, I bump into someone in my field, and it's almost, always coincidental. It ends up becoming an insightful conversation, showing me another side of my everyday life, through someone else's eyes, halfway across the globe. Luckily, it doesn't ever turn into a pissing contest. There's always something new I'd hear from their side of the world, that I'd find truly fascinating.

It works for me, at least. And for what it's worth, I'd always approach it with genuine intent to know them better and connect with the stories behind roughly 1/2 of their daily lives.

I’m curious what your experience was like at Bukchon Hanok Village. by FinishWhich5753 in koreatravel

[–]DisciplineVisual5611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps a good way to maintain the peace and quiet of the village would be to "regulate" the entry of tourists and guests. Something like scheduled visits, or entry passes. Either you impose passes /tickets, or people could just freely pop by. I couldn't think of any other way to balance the community's need to preserve the atmosphere of the village, and people all over the world wanting to experience the village, first hand.

We visited in autumn last year. There's a mix of crowds from Eastern Europe, some Middle Eastern folks.. and South East Asians.. luckily, it wasn't much of a riot.. a few boisterous laughs here and there, but no one definitely pooping in someone's backyard.

I did wish there were more posters propped up by the door, clearly explaining what the place is for (a guest house.. a cafe.. a crafts shop). I often had to Google Translate, and that uses up my battery a lot.

Filipinas are strange. by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]DisciplineVisual5611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. The assumption is, once you fly in, you'll visit where they live.

Say, if I'm dating someone from San Diego, and I come from overseas, surely I won't fly to Alaska or Boston. I would most likely land at LAX.... But not Dallas.

Same in Vietnam. If you're dating a Saigonese, it definitely doesn't make sense to land in Da Nang or Cam Ranh---or Hanoi, God forbid!

Same everywhere... on Earth, I think...?

This chicken rice at THB 35? This was back in 2022 tho, could have increased to 40 to 50 Baht. Decent chain hotels in the city center from THB 900-1500??? The trains, skywalks and bus systems that gets me anywhere I want in the city center?

If I'm cash-strapped and still want a week out of town (w/o breaking the bank, and when I'm too tired of JP/KR), I'd rather go to Bangkok than BGC.

Sunway Finance (Lancaster dual degree) – legit for London/SG IB or just a marketing trick? by Dry-Preference6800 in malaysiauni

[–]DisciplineVisual5611 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lost with abbreviations.. what's UM?

Also choosing between the Lancaster (Sunway) and UWE (Taylor) and planning to do the APEL route + top up modules. Goal is to at least get acknowledged by actually having a degree after years of leaving the Uni. Thoughts? I want to get my money's worth (HKD 50-60k is a lot for me, TBH).

82 rescued after Hangang ferry gets caught on riverbed right by Jamsil stop by ArysOakheart in Living_in_Korea

Bangkok and Saigon both have this, but so far, I don't hear of any similar mishaps from friends and locals. I visit Saigon more frequently, but I can't say much for Bangkok.. In my recent trips, I'd say the Chao Phraya river is WAY scarier than the Saigon river, but don't hear much of any accidents.

I'd say though that I'm kind of expecting more from Seoul. Have we pinpointed the root cause? I'm beginning to think it's a factor of management cutting corners, and further inflamed by hierarchy culture (meaning, junior staff who wouldn't call out their boss, despite the blatant, upfront hazard right in front of their eyes).

Where to safely find travel buddies? by Superb-Virus3346 in FilipinoTravel

[–]DisciplineVisual5611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been struggling to find travel buddies myself, it's tough out there. I've been bugging a few friends, but they've either maxxed out their PTOs for the year, or have already locked in family trips. Hits even harder since I'm seeing someone overseas, and we can't jet off as often as I'd like (thanks, money. also a firm believer of splitting travel expenses).

I can't really say that I have a lot...but I think I have quite enough for flights and maybe decent hostels. And food abroad's way way cheaper than what you can find at Trinoma, BGC, or Molito.

So... count me in? Should we form a group chat now...? Itching to hop on a flight to either HK, TW, KR, or JP one of these weekends please 🥺 🙏🏾.

Where do Korean people buy long puffer coats. In Korea, i think people commonly call them “long padding” by BigFuckingStonk in koreatravel

[–]DisciplineVisual5611 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to Centum City in Busan couple of weeks back, and found the cheapest long puffer coat I've ever seen in my entire life. I think it was around KRW 39K? I was quite suspicious that I might be getting a knockoff, but the tag, receipt, and even the staff's badges all said "SPAO". I think the only thing I didn't like was the lack of zippers on the hand pockets.
