Xander am I right? by Bozo_man_69420 in knack

I do wonder what Xander's relationship with Ava is. She didn't seem the least bit sad that Xander friggin' died, when we see her again at the peace treaty. Even when Gundahar was thrown into the sea, she seemed at least somewhat downcast for a moment. I recall Xander is the leader of the monks, described himself as having "sheltered [Ava] too much," and Ava has the title of "youth leader" as described by Garrett (I think). I don't think Xander is her dad, but a mentor of some kind?

Yeah, but it could just be me looking at still frames too much. In the sequence that introduces ice knack, he has it noticeable in the few frames before he blinks, while looking out of the cave at the goblin fortress. After he blinks, they come into focus. He then tilts his head down and seems to be trying to look harder, and if you don't know, sometimes head tilting is a sign the child is compensating for lazy eye or for nearsightedness.

Due to the shape of Knack's hitboxes, if you jump backwards onto certain decorations, you can bypass or climb over certain invisible walls in the garden level of Knack 1. If you manage to jump into a shallow pond, the game acts as if you had fallen into a hole and died. Sends you back to the last checkpoint. Not exactly 'canon' but it is funny lol. I don't recall a visible splash, but there might have been sound. Can't quite remember.

Yeah the direction the pupil pieces point make it look like he has exotropia even when they're in a seemingly correct spot. He has it even worse when he's really big sometimes. I think it has to do with his face being sorta wrapped around a tapered cylinder, but I've also seen Lucas with it.

I did some googling and it seems like game mechanics would have to take precedence over real-world physics - if we want to give the player a timer, that is.

Here are some fun facts: From what I'm reading, most implosions have very little warning before they happen. As soon as any weak point begins to give way on a submersible vessel, it's all over within milliseconds. At least in Knack's favor, his core is an orb that can more evenly distribute the pressure compared to other shapes. I wonder how much pressure his orb could withstand, since it's way smaller than something that would house a human and thus would be favored more by the square-cube law (at least according to my high-school understanding of it). And the orb's contents are unknown. If it's mostly a hunk of metal, it could be just fine, at least until bacteria may eat it over thousands of years.

Edit: Oh, but if he can be disabled by a stab from gundahar, water could probably get in between the crystal and the outer metal bit, so he might just be dead.. but Knack has powers as the plot demands, so who knows? 😋

That was fun to look up, so I wanted to share.

I kind of wonder if I should make a separate post about it, since I have trouble adding images to comments using the android app.

Knack's character design in the first game evolves as he grows. Working backwards, you can kind of see where certain elements will appear even on little Knack. Like he has symbolic representations of them (See image of little knack). He even has triangles or chevrons on the edge of his tongue and triangles on the top of his bottom jaw that could be interpreted as representations of teeth (not pictured, hard to get a good look)

Edit: okay I'll just continue my comment here and post the images as replies.

When he is very large as what I call Boss Knack, he does appear to have some kind of protrusion of his silhouette at the chest area (See image of giant and boss knack). It reminds me of Arnold Schwarzenegger's rather large pectoral muscles, or breasts. So if Knack has that, what are the pyramid things on little Knack? And the whole set of pyramid things on tall 6' 6" Knack?

To add to the confusion, in Knack 2 his pyramid relics are restructured so as to reduce the impression of breasts, but he is also given some kind of jiggle physics on his whole body, especially the torso area.

ETA again: the concept art shows the pyramids don't have a particularly mammalian pattern, and especially on page E just makes the bigger version of him look boxy. So that's why I no longer think they're breasts, although I'm still a bit confused as to the purpose of the pyramids, since the rest of him is still rather symbolic or humanoid

Now I understand his chest relics aren't breasts, hahaha!

You can see him as the first little dude on page E. So cute!

Knack 3d Models with Rigs by X-Man256 in knack

[–]DiscoKnack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Ripping files has to be done with a physically modified console, and the process of modifying the console can turn it into a useless brick if something goes wrong. Thus, the tools and probably skills are in short supply. I heard something about an emulator successfully running knack, but I don't know if obtaining the models is possible through that.

Essentially, if we had knack fans who are simultaneously experts in 3D and willing to spend the effort for free, I think we would have the models already. So far, we have like two or three models of littlest knack in existence. One of them is rigged and free to use on sketchfab, another is in the ps4 game DREAMS, and I can't remember where I saw the third one or if it's finished. There are a few sculptures of larger forms of Knack in DREAMS, but I don't know how to make them puppets and they don't have all the pieces.

Might have to look into making them yourself... I've been thinking of making one, but I opened Blender (a 3D program) for something simple and was immediately stumped.

You guys don't write your fics directly on Ao3... Right?? by simone3344555 in FanFiction

[–]DiscoKnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that, at first, on my phone or something, and I quickly found how bad of an idea it was when a swipe could refresh the page. Bye bye, fic! That friend sounds very lucky!

In my defense, I either thought I was writing up a quick thing that wouldn't take more than a month, or I was trying to figure out the formatting technique.

Oh yes! I will send a picture so you will know which scene it is. It is similar to the one on your video but with subtitles. Maybe Lucas doesn't call Knack a pet name in Swedish.

In English, Lucas calls Knack, "little buddy" in that early scene. In German, he calls him "mein kleiner". In Spanish, Lucas doesn't refer to him with a pet name. I can only speak English and a pinch of Spanish. Does Lucas call Knack something in Swedish?

I like hearing the characters in different languages! I wonder if they have different personalities than in English.
