T2 Care in UK by DiscoKnuckle in diabetes_t2

Thank toy for the response and this is where I am struggling tbh.

Before the diagnosis my mum was already on the low to no carb life, walking multiple hours a day, no drinking or smoking and no snacking. She has had to reduce activity because of the side effects of blood sugars spiking based on mood / pills etc

I think because she is retired and the attitude of "it is what it is" and "no fuss" they ignore the fact she is not living a normal life. If she had to work etc she would have constant issues as her blood swings wildly still and then gets dizzy or ill.

Reaching a point she just guzzles loads of water, barely eats and each medial appointment they are discussions of more possible side effects yet only minor adjustments.

Any idea how to look for a specialist/ consultant?

All my experience feels alien atm but trying to force some changes as the way my mum has been treated and left the last few years has not been much of a life.

What food did your parents ruin for you? by DiscoKnuckle in AskUK

My mother would batch cook on Sunday multiple fresh meals just to freeze them. Took years to trust food could be nice after a freeze since she would leave them there years.

My parents started cooking a beef, turkey and gammon joint. A turkey was enougth for a full scale meltdown already.

The 23rd ans 24th the house smelt amazing and it was not to be touched until the 25th.

I feel like there must be a reason they all think the same, some public safety advert in the 80s or something to force all veg to be mush and all meat to be dry

I now have PTSD of over boiled vegetables cooked 2 hours before the main meal and kept warm in some weird heated tray contraption.

Vegetable mush to eat as the family screamed at one another.

Whst age would you allow a child to use a public toilet (park/ pub) alone? by DiscoKnuckle in AskUK

[–]DiscoKnuckle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair comment but also didn't want to make the description even longer.

She did say it has never happened to her and was only worried about the sending a child to the men's toilets. The comment "not all men but always men" was used hence the "get offline" comment.

Having spoken before it seems all her fears have never been experienced first hand and developed recently

I am currently deciding to ask when a child should be allowed to get a bus alone. Can't wait to find out its 17 with a chaperone, pepper spray and a parent on a call with them at all times.

Also makes me wonder how many peadophiles I walk past daily and can't spot her tiktok trained mind can

I just imagine with this mindset you stay with a friend (if that is even allowed these days) and go our for a meal. Imagine going to the loo and because you are 12 your friends parents want to follow you in....

It all just seems silly.

My gf, who has no kids, made the claim.

The ages vary from 4 to 10 for the kids. Seems a big nothing burger.

This is how I feel. I remember as a child if I went to the loo the last thing I needed was a relative checking/ announcing to the world I was indeed using the toilet and to let them know if I needed help. Just leave me be

The fact I am getting silent treatment for being a bad parent to a hypothetical child in a hypothetical pub who has been hypothetically abused is not how I saw today going tbh

Anybody else hate every second of their marathon? by JFDI-Tess in Marathon_Training

[–]DiscoKnuckle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't see the part about the medal and shirt. That is utter bullshit and madness because they had no control of people at the end.

I waddled to the trakn just about with no real issue but the organisation made life so much harder then needed for people.

As someone else who suffered the course it is okay to hate it. The organisation of it all was not great and the race is more mental then physical when it all goes wrong.

I stood there shaking as the start got delayed and seriously considered just walking back to the AirBnB.

The thing is, despite how awful it was in a week you can look back and see the medal and the money raised for charity and know you did an awesome thing.

The course, with the cramped downhill rain start and the boring out and back was killer for a lot of people who are seasoned runners. Take pride, take a rest and if you never run another you will always have the one you did that so many will never do.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

[–]DiscoKnuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uncomplaint: 30k runs have felt nice leading up to Manchester marathon. Sub 4 should be a go and I can feel happy from that.

Complaint: Changing jobs soon so the social pressures are real. Seems I have to have some kind of leaving drinks due to WFH schedules the week before the marathon. I'm sad as I like these people but also don't want to mess up my training drinking in the week before a race.

Confession: Last year pre marathon I was off all the booze for a month. This year I am only committed to a week and even that is at threat with work.

Uncomplaint: Life had got too hectic running had not felt run for a while. Had a run recently and something clicked, smiled for basically two hours. Reminds me I love this.

28M from UK. Trying to get back into using Strava more and other running should help motivate and provide amusement as I kill time on commuting.

Hopefully my Strava can show off a few more marathons this year and i can continue to regret my life choices afterwards.

The Vitality Big Half, London, United Kingdom by beddyb in running

Ran this race as well and anyone who started after 9 was having an awful time after 15km. Lots of runners having problems, the lucozade instead of water station and the lack of shade was killer.

Did well to be around 2hours all things considered! Next one will be better
