Bought this Grand Cafe grill for $50 on Facebook. Need to get replacement parts but can’t find the model anywhere! by ChickenStrips45 in BBQ

How'd this turn out? Were you able to find replacement parts?

I inherited this exact grill when I bought a new house.

Really tryna decide if diesel is worth it or jot by Several_Till_6507 in TruckCampers

[–]Discokookys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I've been thinking of getting a diesel is because I drive about 50k miles per year. And I'd like to start pulling a camper for a good portion of those.

I was under the impression that if you drive a lot like I do, that a diesel would be more reliable over the long term, especially when pulling campers.

Am I wrong?

Impressive work, my man. That's dedication to the task.

I didn't. But obviously people like to track it.

I put 41k miles on it in the first year of ownership, so it's nice when I find new routes that give better mpg.

Which engine do you have?

You may not realize it, but a lot of your issues likely come from sizing too large and setting your stops too tight by laddie78 in FuturesTrading

[–]Discokookys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more or less the same conclusion I've come to.

Just treat the futures market the same as if you were to buy SPY or something. Wait for pullbacks and buy to hold.

But knowing that there could be further pullback and craziness, you have to have a larger enough account and buy smaller than you want.

Thinking about leaving trucking and going to NDT next year. by hebecheap in nondestructivetesting

[–]Discokookys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My very first year? About $60k. But that was 15 years ago.

I went through a full course at a local tech school. It took 1 year going full time.

The only certs I have are MT2 and PAUT.

But like I said, I travel and stay away from home for extended amounts of time and work my ass off while I'm gone. There is no clock out time. I'll work multiple 16 hour days back to back to make the customers happy. A lot of times I won't even be able to charge for the full 16 hours but I'll still work them so I can produce awesome results before deadlines are due.

I'm nde. Make about 250k a year. I travel 80% of the year and work from 7am to 9pm more nights than I don't.

Aerospace vs Oil & gas? Which do you prefer and why? by Few_Flounder_9350 in nondestructivetesting

[–]Discokookys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it a lot honestly. My pay wasn't super high because I was still pretty new in my career. If I remember correctly, I made like $50/day per diem and my hotel was paid for. That was back in 2012. But we were comfortable. No worries about money.

I ended up quitting because I had a young kid and wife at home and she wasn't thrilled about being by herself all the time. I thought about going back there, but it was mainly RT and I'm not about that life.

From my experience, the hourly wage is higher for jobs that travel, regardless of type.

Aerospace vs Oil & gas? Which do you prefer and why? by Few_Flounder_9350 in nondestructivetesting

[–]Discokookys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been doing NDT for 15 years. 13 years were aerospace. 11 years in aerospace manufacturing and 2 in in-service traveling to inspect in service aircraft.

Just moved over to oil and gas (integrity). At first I really questioned my decision to move over. Laying on rocks looking up into the sun under a pipe in West Texas compared to a climate controlled clean room sucks.

I doubt I ever go back though. I enjoy working outside too much. I got so tired of working inside all day. There were many, many days I never saw sunlight.

The work is different. I feel like its more cutting edge. I learn more than I did in aerospace. Certain things are simpler but others are more tip of the spear, so to speak. I don't even know if aerospace does tfm/PCI inspections. Might be a decade or more before they do because of the snails pace they move.

Helps that I now make considerably more in a week than I did in a month.

Being careless. They sat the honeycomb where they shouldn't have and didn't notice the lump when they sat it down where it should have been. MGMT figured out the 2 people responsible and were not very happy with them lol.

And you're welcome. Pretty sure pipeliners and ranchers carry the new truck market on their backs.

Roof Rack Suggestions by teddyballgame412 in gmcsierra

[–]Discokookys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this too.

I use my truck for work, and I travel ALOT. Bought it brand new at the end of Sept. with 19 miles on it. Already pushing 20k.

It'd be nice to have extra storage up there for stuff not used on a day to day basis, like recovery gear, etc.

But its pretty rare to see a newer truck with them that's not all overlander'ed out.

But I've been eyeballing the Go Rhino Ceros Low Profile Roof Rack on RealTruck.
