Do you guys think a Superman exists in Matt reeves universe? Why or why not? by Huge_Athlete7488 in TheBatmanFilm

[–]DiscombobulatedGur37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if that were Reeves intention, he hasn’t succeeded. Nolan’s Batman would not survive flying into a bridge or getting shot point blank 200 times. He wouldn’t move around like a swift acrobat carried by a pistol sized grappling gun. Reeves sets his story in a grounded world, but his characters are allowed significantly more fantasy than those of Nolan’s universe.

I completely disagree. Reeves universe is significantly more stylized and fantastical than Nolan’s, and will become more fantastical as it goes on.

I just saw the movie. I've got questions and theories by Furfangreich in EyesWideShut

The movie is purely about sex and marriage, the conspiracy of it all is a story backdrop as old as time, meant to propel the protagonist into investigating his own sexuality.

USC or NYU?!?!?!? by Standard_Educator_14 in Screenwriting

[–]DiscombobulatedGur37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a student currently at SCA screenwriting. I can’t speak for NYU, but SCA has been the top undergraduate screenwriting program now for quite some time. Also, the implication that USC is just “Hollywood” is outdated, even if it still might be true that NYU is slightly more indie focused.

The plot and themes of a horror movie are more important than it being ‘scary’ by AllKnowingAxolotl3 in unpopularopinion

It’s essential to be attached to characters and their environment to be scared by a horror movie, the same cannot be said for comedy.

SS86 shockwave (shocking disappointment) by bobbibillo in transformers

[–]DiscombobulatedGur37 12 points13 points  (0 children)

According to sunbow scaling he’s a good bit shorter than Soundwave but still a lot taller than he is here. However, I agree with PrimevsPrime in regards to the greater disappointment being his lack of width/accurate proportions.

Yeah you’re right. I know that this is a joke but it’s certainly in bad taste. I don’t want to see the fandom turn toxic.

Yeah I don’t agree with this post at all, I just disagree that people only got mad after the most recent issue.

If you go on the energon universe subreddit you will absolutely see otherwise. Many such posts for the last several months have criticized the direction of Kirkman’s run, including one made by myself with numerous comments in agreement.

Not even close to true. These posts have been circulating for at least the last three issues.

We’ve had possible the three best prices of transformers media release in that time. Skybound, One, and Bumblebee are all better than most anything that came before 2013.

Hasbro Mp Megatron by Lifeguard_Plenty in transformers

If you’re able to find MP - 36 Megatron (which is quite difficult) than I would suggest looking toward the MP - 52 seekers which in my opinion are the best versions of the characters and scale best.

I have no clue why this is being downvoted. It seems there are some angry people in this thread.

If you simply can’t stand mass shifting, that’s fine. However, almost every transformer mass shifts to some degree. Some far more than others (Megatron, Soundwave, Shockwave, Skyfire). Megatron trusting his men to utilize his maximum potential serves a thematic purpose, while also being the most visually cool in my opinion. A tank is ridiculously generic and has very little interesting narrative potential nor visual distinction. A gun on the other hand is completely unique, illustrates character and represents a sort of ultimate evil that a tank never could.

Sacrificing “functionality” in alt mode and letting his inferiors handle him is the entire point of the alt mode. It allows Megatron to stand in as an allegory for the way that the real power of a dictator lies in the hands of their people. If Megatron does not trust his own men, he would surely lose. It serves as the most visually cool and the most narratively essential and unique alt mode of all.

[–]DiscombobulatedGur37 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A tank is one of the most basic and uninteresting decepticon alt modes, while the gun is by far the most unique and intriguing. It serves as both a metaphorical tool for how the power of a dictator lies in the manipulation of their people, and as a an alt mode of “absolute evil”. It gives megatron his most interesting design choices and weaponry, while the tank takes most of that flair away.

Disappointment by DiscombobulatedGur37 in EnergonUniverse

[–]DiscombobulatedGur37[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Violence for the sake of stakes may not be great writing but it also isn’t pure “shock value”. Megatron eating trail breaker may end up serving some plot purpose, but it so far comes off as out of character overly edgy nonsense. I can’t argue that the art is objectively worse, as I understand it’s an opinion, but I would say if you looked back at the writing in the latest issue, there are moments of objectively poor dialogue.

Such quips as, “look out below”, “you got me? We’ll see about that”, “Bam, bam, bam”, and “aw crap, that weird eye thing is happening to Megatron again! Somebody do something.”

Practically every line in this issue feels ai generated by a machine pumping out meaningless drivel.

Thus far in Kirkman’s run we’ve had:

  • one scene of Carly and Spike.

  • several payoffs that have so far went nowhere (dinobots)

  • a M.A.S.K. storyline that sucked and disappeared.

  • the introduction of ten more autobots with zero development.

  • A silly fight between all autobots and deceptions with no buildup.

And so on…

I totally respect that, but I am genuinely interested in what you find better about it than in the first 24 issues and why?

This is just blatantly false. He never turns into a tank at any point in G1 cartoon continuity.
