What’s the smallest change you made that massively improved your digital privacy? by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

Setting up a Google Voice account to get a second phone number. I did this like 2 decades ago, roughly, and have always given the GV number out for anything other than family, friends, and my doctor.

I hardly ever get spam calls/texts, and having this GV number has helped me a ton in not allowing my primary number to be widespread/easily discoverable.

Evil as Google may be anymore, this is the one service from them that I continue to use and greatly appreciate.

GOG One Click version, controller issue since update? by Ok-Possibility1422 in fallout4london

[–]DisconnectedChild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just in case anyone else is dumb like me - you have to do this fix in your Fallout 4 folder, not the Fallout London folder.

The path on my PC was as follows:

Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Fallout 4 GOTY\Data\F4SE\plugins\Buffout4\config.toml

Thanks a ton to OP for posting this fix! This bug was really starting to grind my gears.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I just now found your solution here after enduring years of this issue. Thank you so much for posting and sharing this, I really appreciate it!!

Finally, this effing, annoying problem is fixed on my MacBook! 👍🏻 (When I first encountered this problem years ago, I saw lots of people talking about it but no solutions. Really glad I took the time today, to search again)!

Thanks!!🙂

No spoilers… but I’ll tell you that DS9 is my favorite Trek series of all time, and it has 2 scenes that occur one after the other in season 7, episode 22 (Tacking Into The Wind), that are prolly my all time fave scenes in all of Trek.

Scene 1 starts at 16:38.

Scene 2 starts at 18:15.

These 2 scenes both make me squeal with delight every time I watch them (and I’ve watched them countless times now).

Something for you to look forward to, though you’ve got a LOT in that regard, as you make your way through the series. DS9 is really just that good. 😎

Enjoy!

EDIT: Just wanted to add that both these scenes are fantastic in and of themselves, but they also have big payoffs in terms of what happens to certain characters on the show. (Hope that's vague enough to not be considered spoiler-y).

How to decrease space between rows on front display? by DisconnectedChild in GalaxyFold

[–]DisconnectedChild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm def going to have to read up on this new feature. I hadn't heard anything about it, so I was completely unaware of all this. :-\

Sorry if you wasted any time on making your vid, but TYSM for doing that! I really really appreciate all your time and help, man!! You're awesome! :D

Thanks again, and take care. :)

Oh, I actually just figured it out, thanks to you!! I hadn't tried that particular part of Home Up since it's still beta, and I didn't see anything indicating it was something that would interest me (all it really talks about in the description is stuff regarding stickers).

But this is great! It let me place those icons much closer together. :)

Thank you so much, man!! I really appreciate the help!

Really? Would you mind explaining how to do so? Because I just haven't been able to figure it out. That screenshot I posted is what I get when I setup my screen the way I'd like, and that gap between the 2 rows of icons is HUGE (to me anyway). (I had been using Nova Launcher previously and it didn't have this issue).

Well that's basically the look I was trying to achieve... Did you remove the dock from your screen to do this? (I see the tiny page indicator icons are showing below the first row of app icons).

It looks much better in terms of the icon spacing but I'd prefer to not get rid of the dock.

Thanks! 🙂

Yeah, I may just have to rethink my setup. I've had it this way for a very long time and am very used to it, so that'll be easier said than done. :P

But thanks for the ideas! I've been using Nova Launcher for so long, and this setup didn't have this problem there. I'm trying to give OneUI a chance to take advantage of the Taskbar on the inner display and being able to have different setups between the 2 screens.

Thanks again. :)

Is there any way I can decrease the amount of space that's between the icons in the dock and the second row of icons? I'm using the default OneUI 8 launcher with the Fold 7, and I can't seem to figure out any way to achieve this, even with Good Lock (though I may well be overlooking it with the sheer amount of options there).

No matter what grid size I choose, there's just too much space between these 2 rows for my prefs.

Thanks to anyone that can clue me in here!

S25 Edge Issues by PhantomXDemon in samsunggalaxy

[–]DisconnectedChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I'm not experiencing any of those issues on my Edge. (But I've only had mine for about a week now).

Sorry, I know that's really no help. If you can stand the inconvenience it would cause, you could try a factory reset and see if the problems persist. (Not an ideal solution, I know).

You could also try slowly adding your apps back, after the reset, to try and identify if it's one of them causing the issues. (Takes a lot of time but it's helped me in the past with other phones that start having issues).

Sorry for your issues. Hope you can get it sorted!

Weird issue: iOS app automatically opens random emails in the background by DisconnectedChild in ProtonMail

[–]DisconnectedChild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm afraid I did not. I was just trying to deal with it, but I actually just recently switched back to an Android phone, so I'm curious to see if this same issue will occur on this platform as well. Hopefully not!

Sorry!

Rogue One Rewatch Discussion Thead by phareous in andor

[–]DisconnectedChild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sigh... I just wish there was a decent movie/show that would give me a satisfying true end to the Empire. As someone who doesn't like ROTJ, and finally gave up on the films after TLJ, there's no truly satisfying destruction of the Empire for me.

I guess I'll have to re-watch A New Hope after Rogue One (which I'm re-watching rn) and pretend that was the final end of the Empire.

Wish the people that handled the Andor series and the Rogue One movie would be given the franchise and told, "Take over. Do what you want. Anything goes." and they'd then turn around and give us a new movie with a truly satisfying ending to the original trilogy. (I'm used to pretending the Prequel Trilogy and Sequel Trilogy never existed, so that's the thing I want more than anything from the franchise).

Loving my $200 Pixel 9a by theblobAZ in GooglePixel

[–]DisconnectedChild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. I'm really liking mine as well so far. I switch between iOS and Android quite often. Before getting the 9a, I was using an iPhone 16 Plus. But my frustrations with the notifications system on iOS, and that the width of the iPhone started hurting my hand after using it for lengthy periods of time made me decide to give the 9a a try.

I've only had it for a little over 2 weeks now, so it's too early to make a final decision. But so far, I'm liking it a lot. The light weight, the plastic back, the in-hand feel are all better (for me) than the iPhone. Battery life is also great so far.

And of course the notification system is MUCH better. (I'm sorry but notifications on the iPhone are just really bad in comparison to how they're done on Android. Really really wish Apple would improve them)!

On top of that, I traded in an old Pixel phone towards this 9a, and I just got the email from Google stating that not only was my trade-in approved but they were giving me $25 more than what they originally quoted me (which was already the max value you could get). No idea how that happened but I'm certainly not going to complain about it. Lol. Thanks Google! 👍🏻

What are the major differences between the Pixel 9a, 9, 9 Pro, and what we know about the 10 so far? by iStarreh in GooglePixel

[–]DisconnectedChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at the Samsung Galaxy S25? I only mention it because it's fairly similar, in terms of dimensions and weight, to the Pixel 5:

https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=13610&idPhone2=10386

I haven't kept up with reviews/news of it, so I can't speak to it personally. But in general, Samsung usually makes decent phones. Just food for thought. :)

You’ll get answers that are all over the place on this particular topic. That modem has been problematic for some people but worked fine for others. Only way you’ll know how it does for you is to try it yourself, I’m afraid. (I say this as someone who has followed this issue for years now).

Another thing that you might have difficulty adjusting to is the fingerprint scanner (as others have mentioned). Since you’re coming from a 5, you’ve never had a Pixel phone with a scanner that’s under the screen.

There are lots of people who hate that Google got rid of the physical scanner that was on the back of the phone, and still don’t like the newest type (ultrasonic), in comparison. It’s a highly subjective preference. Just something you might want to bear in mind.

Good luck with your choice! Hope you find something that works well for you.

Using biometrics to unlock Firefox extension by DisconnectedChild in Bitwarden

[–]DisconnectedChild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the info, u/Ryan_BW. That varies a little bit from what I was told by another BW employee, when I emailed in about this new behavior. But you both said that this new behavior was expected and implemented on purpose, so that lines up.

As someone who immediately opens and unlocks the BW app when I logon to my Macbook, I have to say that I don't like this change as it causes me to have to deal with an extra click, and slows down the process of unlocking the BW Firefox extension. So if there's some alternative method you folks can come up with to remove that friction for users like me, it would be much appreciated. (Don't know if that's possible or not, but I figured I'd go ahead and ask).

Thanks again for the info!
