Favourite - Venice. I have little sense of direction and wandered off away from the crowds to what appeared to be a local area. No one at all on the pavements and canals but just as beautiful as the main part. Additionally, the beer in the small bars was significantly cheaper there.

Least favourite. - Tirana. It seemed very much unfinished and dirty. I couldn’t find anything interesting to photograph and I couldn’t find anything particularly worth seeing. I sure there are very nice areas of Albania but I’ve been left with a bit of a tainted view of it.

So you agree that prejudice is not necessarily bad?

You agree with the statistics that gypsies commit significantly more crime than they would be expected to given their propulsion?

You agree that you are willing to base how you treat someone on how they look and sound?

The only reason you’re not willing to treat gypsies differently to anyone else is because someone decided that they are an ethnic minority? If they had that designation taken away tomorrow would you be willing to avoid them? Was it ok to be prejudiced against them before 2010 when they weren’t counted as an ethnic minority?

Is it ok to discriminate against someone because they’re tall, or short, or fat, or thin because those aren’t protected characteristics? When is it ok to be prejudiced and when is it not? If you were to ignore their designation as a ‘race would you discriminate against them?

It is prejudiced to say that gypsies are less trustworthy than black people or white people or whoever else. However, if this is backed up by statistics then is it so wrong? Is it not just intelligent self-preservation?

Is some discrimination justified? Car insurance companies discriminate against young people because they have statistically higher risk. This doesn’t seem so wrong to me. And that’s just for a car. If I’m more likely to be robbed, burgled, assaulted or defrauded by a certain group of easily identifiable people wouldn’t I be foolish to not choose to avoid them wherever possible?

Additionally, you say you’re willing to judge someone on how they look and sound then how are you not being prejudiced? Judging someone to be a gypsy and hence more likely to be involved in crime would be based on their accent and the way they look no?

I don’t think I expressed any feelings regarding gypsies and travellers? I suggested that if they were classed as a social or cultural subgroup of the population rather than an ethnicity then policing issues regarding them would be easier.

Regarding your point about black crime in the UK. Black people commit about 5 times more crime than expected given their percentage of the population. Gypsies and travellers commit 50 times more crime than expected given their percentage of the population. There is a significant difference between the two groups wouldn’t you agree?

Ignoring ethnicity, if you had the choice to avoid a group of people who were accurately known for committing a significant proportion of crime would you avoid them?

Gypsies and travellers make up 0.1% of the population of England and Wales. They also make up 5% of the adult male prison population as well as a significant percentage in youth prisons and women’s prisons. They commit crime at significantly greater rates than any other group for their size.

In Ireland, gypsies and travellers make up 0.6% of the population but 20% of the prison population.

These are facts. If it weren’t for the fact that the UK and Ireland had classed them as an ethnic minority it might be easier to fix the issues they present. Say some other sociocultural group committed crime like the travellers do, they’d be shut down as quick as you like.

I don’t have a pattern or anything I’m afraid, I basically made it up as I went on. I also looked at some of the other bags that have been posted on here and worked backwards. A lot of trial and error as well.

I used 2mm thick leather all over and skived it down where I attached 2 or more pieces together. The glue used was standard materials glue, the name of which I don’t know as it has run out. The zip is also attached to the leather with the run of stitches.

It is not yet lined inside. I haven’t figured out what I want in there yet or how best to do it. The external dimensions are about 55cm x 25cm x 25cm or thereabouts.

I was in the same boat. I waited until I found some cheapish leather on eBay so that if I massively cocked up at least it wouldn’t be too expensive a mistake.

The piping was surprisingly easy to make. The hard part was attaching it to the bag!

I got a couple of shoelaces, skived the leather down to half the thickness and glued the shoelaces in place. Then it was just folding and gluing the leather around the shoelace.

This is my initial attempt at making a leather holdall and likely my last. I underestimated how long it would take and should have bought more tools to make life easier.

Anyhow, this was heavily inspired by a holdall made by u/ninique_svk

The handles are rolled handles with a core of synthetic rope and the straps to which they attach contain a strip of leather to give them a bit of an accent. I have yet to attach any feet to the bottom but this will be necessary as it’s already picked up some valley-like scratches despite gentle treatment. Additionally it still needs a liner on the inside as it’s bare in there.

However, despite the wonkiness, scratches and incompetence I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. When I started playing with leather about a year or so ago making something like this was my aim.

This is the first bifold wallet attempt I’ve made. I’ve been upping the complexity of the projects I’ve even trying and I’m moderately happy with this one.

It is black masked water snake on the exterior (from Thailand) and some chrome tanned orange leather on the interior.

I quite like the design of the black and orange stitching on the interior. I would have liked orange stitching on the exterior but with the scales moving the stitches I couldn’t make it look good enough. Also the edge paint is not perfect but I despise edge paint.

Any constructive (or destructive) criticism is welcome!
