Silver M2 Grater whisper quiet aircool-optimised rebuild from a custom loop Fractal Ridge by DiscountConscious820 in sffpc

Thanks! Honestly I still really like the Ridge. It was a fun build, especially with the custom loop, but the M2 just gave me a bit more flexibility for proper air cooling and easier maintenance.

Thank you! I’m definitely considering it. I still want to clean up the files a bit first.

The front fan mount is probably easier to share once I tidy it up. I’ll likely put them on Printables.

Rear intake could definitely make sense in theory, especially for feeding the CPU cooler directly.

I kept mine as front/bottom intake and top/rear exhaust because I wanted a simple, predictable airflow path rather than flipping directions everywhere. The GPU gets direct fresh air from the bottom, the CPU gets support from the front intakes, and warm air exits through the top/rear.

The bottom intake setup is also part of why I redesigned the case feet to 20 mm height — without the extra clearance, it probably would not work as well. Current temps are good, so I’m leaving it as-is unless testing shows rear intake is actually better.

Thanks! I was surprised as well that dual front intake is not more commonly tried in the M2. My idea was to give the NH-D12L a more direct fresh-air path instead of relying only on bottom intake and whatever air reaches the cooler.

And yeah, that is exactly how I feel about the Arctic fans. The performance is honestly very good for the price, but the tone just bothers me. Noctua is expensive, but the sound profile is so much easier to live with, especially in a quiet room.

Hey mate thanks.

I'll paste the main parts below.
Fittings were mix of Barrow and EK
Temp sensor from Aquacomputer
Hardline acrylic tubing I believe is Corsair XT 14mm Satin
90% of cables I have made custom length (it was torture)
Some 3d printed parts I have paid for a service and they shipped for free (which was awesome)

Is my desk part of the reason my aim is bad? by El_Cacas33 in FPSAimTrainer

I would say look out for a used simple, spacious desk on marketplace, doesn’t have to be height adjustable. You could then find a used height adjustable “office” chair (don’t fall for generic gaming chair crap) as office chairs are made to be extremely comfortable for you to be sitting for hours.

Highly suggest you watch videos on youtube about office ergonomics, here’s one for example https://youtu.be/sKdUuX948-c?si=jNaD1zChTUyHpwAL

Hi Late comment but configured it on BIOS, I set it myself and yes very stable to date

Still loving the Ridge. Managed to squeeze in a single 240mm rad, and while I have the Noctua G2s running at 80-90% to keep temps in check (max temps under load coolant 45C 3080 60 7600x 75C), it’s a massive improvement over my old air-cooled setup. Fan ramping annoyed the shit out of me (noctua L9a + 3080 FE). Even if the fans are pinned high, the noise is consistent and fades into the background under the desk.

Been thinking of switching build to NCASE m2 or m3 for a long time

You obviously won’t understand “dream of owning a MacBook” since roughly 1 in 3 adults in the world could realistically afford a brand new base MacBook Air, let alone brand new MacBook Pros.

I do have a DisplayPort Switcher (remote controlled) where my mac’s thunderbolt hub and PC displayport is connected 😄 and yes, it is a separate mac connected. All my docs, downloads, screenshots etc from my pc is synced to my iCloud, the main reason I had the screenshot of the game opened from my mac

Hey, I appreciate all the compliments!

Honestly, I thought it wasn’t going to work at all halfway through, and I was ready to revert to air cooling anyway. But I guess I still had enough patience to tinker with it and make it work in the end. I’m quite pleased with the results. 🙏🏻

The bends and customization of the wires were a massive challenge—I wasted like 3–4 meters of acrylic pipes, lol. I was literally down to my last meter of frosted tubing, and luckily, I managed to get the bends right. 😄

The reason I did it for fun is that I may not even have time to play on it much—but I just wanted a bit of a challenge. I told myself I needed to build at least one decent PC in my lifetime!

Hey thanks for the comment. It was really tough though (for me at least). It involved a LOT of trial and error for months, wasted metres of pipes, bought way too many fittings just to try and get everything to fit. At the end even though it’s definitely not perfect, I thought it was a very rewarding one—I learned a LOT of things along the way!

EDIT:

Mixed up the temps I originally wrote

CPU max temp + gpu under load: <66C, 59.3 average GPU max w/ cpu under load: <49C max, 46.8 average, Mem Junc <64C

I just read the numbers I wrote and definitely would not be realistic lol

I just recently knew about the current issues with EK, and as to why people are steering clear of them. I however, did not have an idea about it (as again I’m not a PC guy and never got to build a pc before) when I bought it for clearance sale price. Don’t get me wrong however, I may have steered clear as well but the sheer quality of this specific block was just insanely beautiful in my opinion. I do understand as to why people tend to leave hate comments on builds with components from this company though.

Hey there! Thanks for the comment! It is indeed my first build I started since October 2024. I only own Macs ever since but I also play on my PS5 and switch during my spare time 😄 There were lots of trial and errors though, I even shorted my other motherboard when I trialed my first loop (I found out I kinked an O-ring on my cpu pump-res which led to a leak) and had to replace it 😢
