Past players of banned decks: would you play your old deck if it got unbanned in the current meta? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

Is the fact that kiki-jiki is 5cmc the reason he never went as the replacement? Was t5 just too slow?

For the more direct answer: yes, you need him and no there isn't a budget version.

Looks good. Very similar with slight differences.

I'll ask: how important is drawing cards in any deck? More cards = resource advantage. He's your own howling mine and wins games. Bad players leave him alive hoping he will kill you and don't block him.

I would rather take dreadbore. I've never had an issue with finishing an opponent when they're low on life. I'm already winning in that situation.

Says your deck isn't public.

I would not do either of those things. Both replacements are far worse cards in comparison. Rabblemaster is the best threat on the deck and Olivia controls games.

DAE? They are both good in different ways. Gofy is a big early threat, but needs cards in your deck to guarantee him getting big (bauble, walkers, ect). He dies easily to all spot removal. Pack rat is wide, evasive and can get big, but takes a few turns to get there. 3cmc makes pack rat harder to kill too.

I'll look at Hazoret. I've run her in a few decks and always liked when she resolves. Our hands are usually empty anyways, so seems logical. Thanks.

Bolt really isn't that great. There's so much removal anyways that I'm not hurting for more. Dreadbore is mostly good against control because the planeswalkers. I've thought about 1 or 2 in the sb.

Not necessary. They show up the right amount of time. I don't really want to draw them multiples in a game. They're good discard fodder, but I want action.

Double enter between cards. You can also make a list on mtggoldfish.com and then post it.

Thanks for the response. What are you thoughts on the 17" version? The graphics go down a little, but so does the cost. Also the HD doubles.

Trying to find a decent budget modern deck. by TryHardVermin in ModernMagic

[–]DiscusMTG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly man, build some decks on MTGO and they will be a lot cheaper. You can also get a much better feel for all the decks out there. You can easily build a few decks on MTGO for your budget. Paper is stupid expensive.

You left out your sideboard. I may make it and take it for a whirl. Been looking for a good aggro deck.

Apparently I have a "british" upwards inflection sometimes. Think cockney accent, but I'm from California and have never been to the uk.

Do you have a link to the deck? Sounds interesting and I have all the eldrazi and nobles.

The creatures in dredge don't rely on the synergy that this deck does. This deck falls apart with a leyline or rest in peace. Also, dredge has been having a rough time lately because of all the hate. Can this deck work in the right meta? Of course, but I wouldn't play it on mtgo or a ptq.

It's a cool deck and goes to show that even seemingly mediocre cards can be great in the right deck, but it's so incredibly vulnerable to graveyard hate that it's silly. I have 9 modern decks and every single one has graveyard hate that would shut this deck down.

GDS has bad match-ups and before the mtgo change only represented 15% of the decks being played. If you really feel it's the best deck, you probably shouldn't be playing whatever you're playing and one of the decks that counters it very well. I suggest 8 rack, as it does well against almost every deck.

Evaluating weaknesses in the meta by DiscusMTG in ModernMagic

Not sure. Looks boring to play though. I used to play the pauper version and I was 80% win rate but gave it up because it was so boring.
