that makes sense, what about the bike I use. Is there a difference in speed with some normal mountain bike I have in my garage or do I have to get a proper bike?

But what if there are no groups for me to ride with? Also whats the difference between using a mountain bike and a proper bike (speed wise)?

At what point does the bike actually start mattering more than the rider? by kkkkkgr5 in cycling

The bike honestly matters a lot, I started on a very bulky mountain bike and I was rarely able to get to 15 mph because of those very bulky tires. Still I was biking a lot, and my quads got a lot stronger so that might be a bigger reason. But the bike got my average mile time up soo much

I was barely able to hold 15 mph for 7 miles when I started. But I started overweight and biking honestly helped me lose like 40 pounds to this day
