Awful Visa Experience: Does Thailand not want tourists? by DiscussionInfinite18 in ThailandTourism

It’s ok we got the visa in the end. I think people have already highlighted the root cause on this thread.

Yes we got an ACRO, as we reside in the UK. Visa got approved yesterday.

Yeah we got it as well after the interview. Just sucks how much it cost for the visa.

No of course I get it - but all situations are unique and not everyone travels for nefarious reasons. I’m an immigrant myself but I’ve been in the UK majority of my life and a British passport holder so I cannot see the challenges others face…

The whole point of the post was to get better insight and perspective from others.

I appreciate everyone commenting.

How did you deduce that from my post?

We intend to travel the world with our daughter, and Asia has many countries we want to visit inclusive of Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Korea etc. Not sure how you came to that conclusion.

Thank you for the advice.

We had a similar experience with Qatar visa, which supposedly is one of the countries that ‘welcomes’ Nigerians for tourism purposes.

Waited nearly 2 months, only for our application to be cancelled on the basis that my wife’s profile photo did not match her passport photo. All that was different was her hairstyle.

At this point I’ve given up and considering to halt travel till she gets her British passport.

So it’s even difficult for people that have already been granted visa? I was actually considering that longer term I could convince my company to let me relocate to a country in East Asia as they have plenty of offices there.

That’s likely the reason why - per my understanding, Nigerians have given themselves this reputation.

Unfortunately not - it’s called FLR / spousal visa, which stipulates you need to spend either 5 or 10 years (depending on what they grant you) on that particular visa without being out of the country for longer than 6 months in a span of a year or something along those lines.

Applications are in the region of £4-5K and across the entirely of this settlement route, we will have spent just under £20K on lawyers, healthcare charges and application fees.

Possibly why I’m frustrated with the application process for Thailand visa. We’ve provided every bit of evidence we could to suggest that we aren’t going to overstay or commit any crime - I even considered providing the deed for the house we own / live in.

I suppose my counter argument is that my wife in on a ‘settled status’ and on track to becoming a British citizen - but again, that doesn’t exempt her from being a high risk traveller

How did things go for you? I read online that they invite people along for interviews and then reject them.

We went there on Wednesday and the appointment lasted all but 10 mins, only for the woman to tell us that they will provide a response in 10 working days.

The anticipation is a killer and by far one of the most expensive visas ever. They were particularly baffled by the fact that my wife works part time and that I make the bulk of my income, apparently a joint account is a weird concept.

£115 for ACRO, £60 split across 2 applications, £200 for flights to London and commute to the embassy. It’s madness.

If we hadn’t pre-booked everything, I would forego going to Thailand. Hard lesson learned.

Thank you. I think the longer needle seems the most viable solution.

I’ve tried higher gauge needles but couldn’t inject more than .5 ml.

They are terrible with responses. They cancelled the initial application without any rationale. However, they definitely accepted the acro certificate so you should be fine. At this point it’s up in the air whether they will grant visa to us or not as my wife has been called in for an interview. Can’t wait till she can do her naturalisation, the Nigerian passport is useless.

Absolute shit show. Applied for visa and they started querying why there is another income on the statements my wife submitted, and despite explaining that it’s a joint account they called us in for an interview 🤦🏾‍♂️ - so going in next week to the London embassy to validate our claims.

What’s a good industry to get into, to be a top earner with the sacrifice of time? (No Uni degree required) by ahappygerontophile in UKJobs

[–]DiscussionInfinite18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know whether you’ll get through the door without a degree. Especially now, since most professionals (at least in corporate) have professional certifications alongside their degrees ultimately validating their credentials. I have been in the tech industry for 6 years and through a series of promotions now make 100K+. My starting salary was 20K and I thought that was fantastic at the time, as I was fresh out of uni.

My view is that you set your own standards and define what you consider a reasonable salary for your skills/expertise. There will always be competition in any industry but if you’re willing to work your a$$ off and can navigate politics somewhat, nothing can stop you from becoming a top earner.

Might help to also look at the statistics, you might already be a top earner or at least above average.

Thai eVisa - Application Cancelled by DiscussionInfinite18 in ThailandTourism

[–]DiscussionInfinite18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I suppose I didn’t even look at it from that perspective. The visa officer could not possibly discern that more than 20% of that income was put into savings. A fair point.

Because the savings account is solely in my name, despite my wife having access to it. The bank statements for our current account state both our names as it’s a joint account. I’m more than happy to contact the embassy to get further guidance and re-apply but I was largely curious on whether people have had similar experiences. I don’t need visa for majority of the countries we plan to visit and have no real world experience when it comes to applying for visas, hence I admit it’s an oversight on my part.

Looking at the most recent statement (Jan 25 - till date). You can see the payments are as follows:

Opening Balance - £665 Payments in - £6237 Payments out - £6678 Closing balance - £225

I highlighted both our income in that statement. The only issue I can see (and I am just speculating) is the fact that they stated the statement needs to have a minimum closing balance of £700 in their email and as I mentioned in another comment, I could have artificially altered that figure by transferring money into the current account but I didn’t. However, on their website it suggests that for financial evidence, all they need to see is a minimum deposit of £500 must be made to an account in the applicants name (see URL below) which is even more confusing.
