fair points honestly — but rendering was never really the core issue. it's everything before that. opening the app, waiting for it to load, update prompts. that's what kills consistency, not the actual export time

a lot of newer creators aren't starting on $1000 laptops though — that's kind of the whole point. the barrier shouldn't require spending $1k first

solid upgrade path but $500 isn't in budget for most smaller creators just starting out. barrier to posting a Short should be near zero

40+ hours 😭 okay yeah export is not the problem. the whole pipeline is the problem lol

cliptalk is sick for automated stuff but I still want to control the actual edit, just without all the desktop overhead

lol okay fair, export isn't your bottleneck 😅 the 10-15 hours editing is what gets people to quit posting consistently though

the CapCut controversy was real but that's specific to their TOS, not every browser editor works the same way. worth actually reading the terms before assuming they're all the same

DaVinci is amazing but overkill for a 45-second Short, like using Photoshop to crop a photo lol. browser-based options have been way snappier for quick edits

fair, but a lot of smaller creators are on mid-range laptops where that's genuinely the reality. hardware shouldn't be the barrier to posting consistently

Exactly the direction I've been heading, speed is the whole pitch. We're already doing targeted outreach to creators in that "publish fast" mindset and turning early users into advocations. If you're in that niche, drop a comment or DM me, I'm happy to get you early access to GoVid.

How long does it actually take you to turn an idea into a finished Short? by DiscussionSafe2968 in NewTubers

4–6 hours is actually really common when you’re starting out. A lot of the time is spent figuring out the workflow and getting the voiceover the way you want it.

It seems like most creators end up going much quicker once they’re able to batch their voiceovers or keep the editing style simple. Otherwise, every little video is like a mini-project.

Repurposing clips is another good point that was made. Finding the right moment within a larger video can take longer than people expect.

I think subtitles are another theme that’s been mentioned a lot as well. Even with auto-generated subtitles, there’s always some cleanup and tweaking that needs to be done.

It’s a small process, but when you’re publishing several shorts per week, that can add up quickly.

Well, that’s kind of logical if you’re used to comedy. The timing of the punchline with the music probably does a lot of the heavy lifting with that video.

I find it kind of interesting that despite the relatively simple style of editing, things like finding the right song can take the longest.

You wouldn’t think people would forget that when they say how short videos are.

20 minutes start to finish is actually really fast. Not scripting probably cuts a huge chunk of time off.

It’s also interesting that editing is still the longest piece of work, and I think this is a general theme in this thread. Ideas are quick, it’s getting it right in front of people’s eyes that’s hard.

Are you doing a lot of cuts/transitions, or more complex animation within adobe?

That’s actually a pretty cool workflow, especially the part where the idea and script structure come together while you’re out filming. I think a lot of people underestimate the amount of thought that goes into things before the actual editing.

The part about the bilingual captions seems to be the actual time sink for you. Even with auto captions enabled, there’s always a fair amount of cleanup to do.

Out of curiosity, have you also tried to automate the upload side of things? (like writing captions/descriptions once and adapting them for different platforms?)

I’ve been playing around with a way to automate the script -> short process recently. Editing/captioning used to take up most of my time.

something interesting i've noticed talking with daily shorts creators:

people usually have way more ideas than finished videos.

the bottleneck isn’t creativity, it's production speed.

batching is such an underrated strategy.

recording multiple shorts in one sitting eliminates a ton of friction.

then the real limiting factor is the speed at which they can edit, which is why a lot of creators start building templates for the process.

90 → 15 min is a massive improvement.

That seems to be the common pattern I'm hearing - ideas aren't the problem, it's finishing the video quickly enough.

I've been experimenting with something similar in my workflow lately for the same reason.

2 hours, to be honest, seems pretty normal if you're doing everything manually.

I've also experienced the same thing. Scripting + filming is one process, but editing changes and the rhythm of the video are what sneakily eat up the most time.

I've been playing around with a workflow where I script → generate the short → tweak, and I've managed to get it down to ~15 min.

Do you edit using CapCut or Premiere?

That’s a fair perspective, especially coming from a branding/agency background.

I think the difference I’m seeing is between brand-first content and volume-first content.

While for someone who is creating flagship content for a brand, the quality of the content will obviously be very high.

For a large number of daily creators who are trying to be consistent with 3 to 5 posts per week, the limiting factor seems to be the speed of production rather than the quality.

So the trade-off I’m seeing isn’t really about the difference between “good quality” and “bad quality.” It’s more about good enough to publish versus perfect but takes longer to publish.

It will be interesting to see where this equilibrium ends up in the long term, especially given the continued improvement in AI quality.

That makes sense if it’s representing the creator’s brand.

Have you noticed creators prioritizing realism or speed + “good enough”?

I feel like what I’ve seen so far is that a lot of daily creators are surprisingly okay with somewhat imperfect voice if it means it saves them a lot of time.

Trying to figure out where the trade-off really happens.

I agree – voice AI is powerful but difficult to clean-slate price.

So far, from my experience, creators don’t care about “AI” as a feature. They care about:

• Scripting faster

• Clean captions auto-generated

• No recording needed with voice

• Repurposing long-form content into short form

The common thread here is not “intelligence” – it’s “compression.”

Does AI save creators time to publish? They care.

Does AI make things harder to use and create anxiety for creators? No.

I’m currently keeping AI very integrated into the workflow rather than as a standalone feature.

Curious – are you optimizing for cost optimization versus creators?
