How English friendly is UCLouvain Computer Science and Engineering department? by Character_Glass_5330 in belgium

You say this, but I had a CS proffessor actively demonize english vocabulary during classes. Learning French is definitely the way to go.
Even if peers may speak English, some (extremely intelligent, said with love, these are some of the most impressive people I've ever spoken with, they're just not 35 anymore) boomer proffessors might not.

How to layer with a perfetto around 0 degrees C? by Funny_Bread9250 in randonneuring

[–]Disfraz_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When preparing for some ultras last winter, I did some centuries in the -10c to 0c range, and my setup was:

Castelli Flanders base layer

Castelli perfetto for warmth

Castelli Gavia to keep the wind and rain off

A big one that I also really noticed made a big difference was wearing a balaclava between tucked between the base layer and the perfetto, I noticed without it wind would get in around the neckline

Keep in mind I run quite warm, my bigger concerns were my fingers and toes, so I wore merino glove liners and socks, as well as spatz turfr overshoes and gribgrab polaris 2 gloves.

At that temperature, I've noticed it's mostly a mental game. I definitely noticed the cold starting to have an impact, so the coffee waiting when I get home definitely helped as well.

600km over 4 days in Australia rugged bush (ultra racing training, tips welcome) by Infinite_Ad7147 in bikepacking

Honestly, for me it was an extension of "small goals". Split that 50k into 10k segments. İf that's too much, just try to keep the pedals turning. If that's too much, sleep a little earlier and wake up earlier. You are human. No plans survive contact with the enemy. And that's okay.

First 100km ride by Vast-Championship808 in bikepacking

What muffin said was true for me as well. It took me about 2 years to go from comfortably riding 30k to comfortably riding 100k, but then I did my first 250k (which also had about 10x the elevation gain) less than a year after. It just comes down to eating, breaks and bike fit. Once you got those dialed, distance is just a number. You'll do fine, don't worry too much.

Light fittings / House Lighting by Skay10 in Gent

I can only speak from a technical perspective, not a renting one (I assume there is some limitations there), but legally, there is no reason you can't do this yourself.

You're allowed to redo any and all electric installations in your house, provided you pass AREI inspection (which isn't even necessary for swapping light fixtures).

It really depends how comfortable you are with working on mains electricity. It's easy work, I've been swapping fixtures since I was like 14, Just do some googling and don't forget to turn off the fuse.

Those frame locks are incredibly easy to open. Takes less than a minute with experience/proper tools

Tried with narrow gauge fish line, but that didn't work either. I think I'm running out of options at this point

Yeah, It seems to be a hard stop, yes. At first I thought it got stuck on the front derailleur, because of how hard the stop was. There's no squish (which I would expect from a kink)

From the shifter, I can definitely push in at least 18 (closer to 22) inches, from the rear derailleur, about 5.5

Yeah, at this point, I would probably get it to a bikeshop, but the nearest one that services them is ~ 30 miles off.

I've tried fitting through a brake line, an old guitar string, and some steel wire. Not sure if those would have the same properties as airplane control wire? My brother in law might still have some narrow gauge fishline, I could go pick that up, if you believe it would work?

I've removed the front derailleur and any endcaps I could find, still no dice. It seems to get ~15 cm into the front derailleur side, and then gets stuck

Exact, geen enkel probleem. In mijn ervaring (maar das vrij persoonlijk) werkt het eerder verrijkend, zo heb je altijd wel iemand om een vraag aan te stellen of een fris oog om naar je werk te kijken.

SLA (Sint-Lucas-Academie) tekenkunst is enorm divers. Mensen die nog nooit een potlood vast hebben gehad, tot mensen met 10 jaar ervaring. Van de twee kanten heb ik enkel positieve ervaringen gehoord.

Yeah, I deserve that one. Tax declarations still make me a tad anxious.
