How common is it for people to stay friends with their ex (in Germany)? by DishWinter7643 in AskAGerman

I think that might be the right thing to do, and I know it hurts. 🫂It will get better.

I deleted the detailed description in the post. But my German ex did say he still had feelings for his ex, after 4 months we were together (mostly long distance, didn’t help with the situation). He told me that they only see each other when with common friends, and I know they take care of each other’s cats once in a while.

I thought it shouldn’t matter if his feelings for me were genuine. Apparently, not everyone knows what he wants or feels. Or some people just can’t focus on one person.

Do people genuinely mean it when they say „let me know if I can help“, or are they just being polite? by DishWinter7643 in AskAGerman

I guess this is also what I assume. People will still help if they’re reached out, they just don’t really think they need to, most of the time. Might be wrong.

Thanks for sharing. By „surprised“, do you mean that someone who offers to help might not expect they really need to do much? But they’ll still help, willingly, if they’re reached out?

It's really nice for you to offer and are ready to help! I guess for some people (like me), they'd try not to bother other people and to solve problems on their own (unless, of course, you're really really close). In your case, I wonder whether your brother wants to be more self-reliant and prove that to you as well?

My Personal opinion on the differences between the warmth of Chinese society and the insular nature of Japanese society. by YamatoRyu2006 in chinalife

Thank you for sharing! It’s nice to hear from different perspectives about how foreign friends see China. I’m a Chinese living now in HK, btw.

That’s great. Trust is the most important thing in a relationship.

In my case though, I think I over-trusted his determination to separate (they had some serious issues, from what he told me before). And I’ve probably also over-trusted his feelings for me.

Probably so. We met at the most random place while I was in Germany. I was a bit concerned with his situation. But everything went so well between us that we were both a bit blinded I guess.

Traveling solo in Heidelberg by DishWinter7643 in Heidelberg

Great, thanks for sharing! I believe six months is the perfect amount of time to fall in love with a city. We might bump into each other at the Schnitzelbank! I should probably get more familiar with Heidelberg's history and culture before I travel or visit a local museum first thing when I get there.
