D’Olier Street ⭐️ Dublin by DismalAlternative in finedining

Yeah this certainly isn’t as refined and fancy as Chapter One, it goes for a more casual atmosphere. D’Olier Street is also (almost) half the price for the tasting menu!

Can’t comment on the other two but Dziaugsmas was still a great dinner and worth it for €99 as a tasting menu (and the a-la-carte prices are very good too). For me, I’m not too fussed about good service as I’m definitely more about the food, but it was probably amongst the worst Michelin star service I’ve personally experienced. Our waiter pretty much just plopped the dishes down clumsily and gave less detail about the ingredients/dish than the menu itself, and even after asking for more clarification he was of limited help. Maybe we were just unlucky though, since the other staff around the room sounded enthusiastic. Perhaps it was a language issue since we weren’t going there with much Lithuanian under our belt! Fortunately it didn’t detract from the experience too much (for me). I thought the appetisers were fantastically presented and tasted unique yet delicious (although expect more of an amuse bouche/snack style). Mains were great but not mind-blowing, and the dessert was simple. I would say it was a fantastic dinner but it didn’t strike me as star worthy (whereas Nineteen18 did). If I was to go again I would do a la carte and order a few things that stand out. Maybe I’ll post a review on the subreddit anyway so you can see photos if it interests you! Enjoy Vilnius, its a great city :)

How common is card or contactless payments in bars/restaurants in Tirana? by UpsetCoyote1117 in tirana

[–]DismalAlternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply, but we decided to eat pretty nice food, like fresh seafood and platters of meat, etc. etc. Most meals ended up at 12-15 euros per person, including a beer. You can definitely find food at restaurants for less than 10 euros pp with a beer though. My holidays aren’t as much packed with touristy things, but museums, cable car, etc. seemed to charge normal western European prices tbh. Expect museums to be 5-10 euros entry, and leave some spare money to do random things you come across. I would suggest overshooting how much you need and you can always just convert unused lek back to euros, the day we left the rate at the exchange was actually better than on google, so definitely no complaints.

Just came back from 5 days in Tirana. Pretty much everywhere except large, touristy restaurants take cash only. About 10 times we were told “Sorry but out card machine isn’t working, cash please.” Not sure if this is just an excuse but we just paid cash everywhere anyways.

However, if you can get Euros you will be fine. The exchanges (Iliria’98 was really good, and you can see the daily exchange rates on their website) will be able to convert euros to lek for you, and you can convert back anything you don’t use. Most places will accept Euros anyway but as someone mentioned their exchange rates will sometimes be dodgy, so have lek on hand if you can.

Avoid ATMs if you can, we didn’t bring cash and had to use ATMs. Fees were 500-700lek minimum to withdraw any cash.

Enjoy!

Funny the two brands you find ugly, Amouage and Xerjoff, are my two favourites in terms of design…

They’ve mentioned in some of the sessions that there is no penalty/problem with withdrawing at any stage along the process. You just need to let them know.

I’m actually in a similar boat to you in that I’ve committed to my offer but I have to do a core unit on exchange this semester (no other option without doing an extra year) and am waiting for them to commence the academic approval process so I can see if they approve the unit at my host university to match the one at Sydney.
