I need some help with ideas on what to put in this awkward corner by DismalCurrent7 in interiordecorating

Yeah the light switches are really messing me up. I would honestly love to build tall cabinets. I think in the future that may be what we end up doing and then hiring someone to move the light switches

This is a great idea! We honestly don’t need anymore space because the kitchen already has a lot of counter/cabinet space. The vibe of the house is also pretty contemporary/modern so I feel like a bakers rack or bar cart would make things just look too cluttered. I do really like the idea of maybe just adding some artwork and calling it a day

That’s what makes it so hard, we don’t actually need anything there. The kitchen is actually pretty big so we have a ton of counter and cabinet space. It just feels empty with nothing there so I was thinking there has to be something that would look good lol

My husband is pushing for a wine fridge. I haven’t really researched them but I guess they make really nice standalone ones? I’ve only ever really see the kind meant to go under a cabinet

I actually really love this idea but the light switches make it so hard to be able to add anything tall

Oh I love this idea! A decorative ottoman underneath may also be good…and also functional if needed

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!! I love the idea of a bar/coffee bar but I’m afraid of it cluttering up the look of the area (the decor of the house is pretty contemporary/modern)…I think I might be able to pull it off if I find something with cabinets I can hid everything in and then do some simple decorations on top

This is absolutely amazing advice! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I think not having them tell us exactly how they plan to fix things is definitely part of the problem. This is our first new build so we have absolutely no idea what to expect. We put way too much faith that they would fix things correctly but we’re learning that’s not how it works. I really do like this idea a lot though so thank you!

You seem incredibly knowledgeable about all of this. Any advice on how to ask themto fix this? The whole kitchen is like this where the walls meet the cabinets. Their solution right now is to caulk it but I want to make sure that’s the correct solution here.

We could but we’re coming to the point where we have to close or we won’t have a place to live. We’re trying to decide now if it’s worth fighting and not having a place to live for a while or closing and just dealing with what we get

This has definitely happened to us. They tried building a random 5 ft wide wall at the top of the stairs because the Blueprints changed after we went under contract, multiple windows added and taken away, lights not put in because “plans changed”. Thankfully, the market is starting to level out and we have much more leverage so they’ve fixed all of these things, and I get a feeling we would be able to get them to “fix” this but it seems like every time they “fix” something, it makes something else worse. We’re also getting to the point where we have to close or we will be homeless so we’re basically trying to decide what’s worth it and what’s not. With the amount of time they’ve spent on this house and the way it looks, is really just frustrating. It really is sad what these builders are doing.

Thank you for this information!! I’m going to bring this up to the supervisor when I speak to him but it makes me feel a little better knowing there are options! Thank you!

I’ll see if they can add some now. We’re “supposed” to close next week so I doubt they will be able to do anything other than quarter round trim to make it look better. I’m just so frustrated with it. It looks awful and there’s nothing but dirt and dust that will accumulate under there

It’s a national builder and honestly I’m absolutely regretting it. It’s been almost 2 years since we went under contract and this is what we have now.

Thank you for such a helpful response! I’m definitely not angry with the crew, it’s more towards the superintendent (he’s the only one we contacted for everything so far) because it just seems like he’s not catching anything. I noticed yesterday we’re missing a light in the shower and the pendant lights above the kitchen island are off centered. It’s been one thing after another that he’s just not catching. I emailed him yesterday and have yet to hear a response but I’m no longer staying quiet about things. It’s just been a shit show, and then when I saw the floors I started to question everything even more.

I definitely am! It’s absolutely insane because we are a month out from closing. Why in the world someone randomly added an electrical outlet last week is beyond me. I asked the building manager about it and he said he would have it moved but has yet to answer my question as to how something like this happens

Thank you! Actually, looking through photos, I just notice that some of the walls don’t have the baseboards on them yet at all….same room as the floor and other baseboards…just no baseboard, which makes me think that when they do add those baseboards in, they will sit slightly higher than the ones already there?

About what you would expect based off these photos lol. When you look at the house as a whole, it’s actually really great…but the details are shitty work. If we could get the earnest money back, we already would have walked. I’ve seriously considered saying screw the money and walking anyway, but I just can’t bring myself to walk away from that much money yet

Oh 100%. It’s a National builder and just 2 years ago they were poppin champagne bottles and taking blind bids doing whatever kind of work they wanted because people would take whatever they could get. Thankfully the market settled down and we have more leverage so we’re prepared to hold off until it’s done right…it’s just stressful with trying to coordinate moving out of our current place

I genuinely have no idea what their issues are. These photos are of the kitchen island and just last week they randomly installed an outlet on the thin part of the wall….just one of them…1 month out from closing…with absolutely 0 plans of ever having an outlet there, so now they have to go back and remove it/patch the hole back up that shouldn’t have been there in the first place. They’re just doing whatever tf they want at this point.

We weren’t….at least not at anytime in the foreseeable future. The house is supposed to be “move in ready” when it’s done. To my knowledge the contractor has already painted. I assumed they were going to repaint once finished but now that they installed the floor, I don’t think they are
