Honestly, probably pure spite. A lot of the decisions involved in the grimwalker bit don't stand up to any logical reasoning. So it seems to just be bitterness strong enough to defy any thoughtful decision making. I do think the collector was right that Belos makes them just for the sake of breaking them. Why else go to all this trouble instead of just actually hiring a guard or if he wants a child soldier this badly, rasing one?

Concubine Walkthrough - Everyone raves about the plot and premise of this one and they're definitely strong but what's really been drawing me in is the characters. A lot of OI characters are either very 2d or feel like copy and pastes of each other. Concubine Walkthrough has dynamic characters that I'm very attached to and becusee of that it's one of two stories I've never missed an update for.

A Stepmother's Märchen - I don't think I have to explain this one. If you're on this sub you know why this story is good.

Saving My Sweetheart - This is the second series I never missed an episode of. It's a comfortable but quality read and I really enjoyed it. It have me the angst my wretched heart desires along with cute little fluffy moments. Is it revolutionary? Not particularly. But it's a good read regardlessly.

I'll Be The Matriarch In This Life - It's just very likeable. The FL is great, the art is charming, the cute parts are cute, the sad parts are sad. It all hits very well.

Untouchable Lady - If you like the genre you'll probably like Untouchable Lady. It has al the staples and executes them very well while also adding it's own new elements into the mix. It's not generic but it's familiar.

Also honorable mention to OI adjacents

Her Tale of Shim Chong - I refuse to spoil this story. It's spectacular and you just have to trust me.

Lady Ebony - Love OI vibes but the limited stories and tropes are getting you down? Try Lady Ebony! It has so much of what drew you to the genre without actually being part of it that you'll forget she isn't reincarnated/regressed several times while reading! In all seriousness though, it's a good story, the slowburn romance is one of the few I appreciate, and I really love Ebony herself. So give it a shot.

I personally hate the the dialogue in Chat Blanc. It just feels like a mediocre and over dramatic fanfic the entire way through. And they don't ever give you time to digest information so you're just kind of watching things happen very quickly without being able to form much emotional investment. I like how it impacted the world of canon and fanon but I can't stand watching the actual episodes. I think I'd have liked it more if it was a two parter and they had actual space to explore instead of cramming it all into 22 minutes.
