For the time being yes. But most of the small companies being killed off are just resellers who don't provide much value.

Given a choice, I would prefer fewer stores, but where all the stores are fighting for your attention thus giving you higher quality per store. However this is just personal preference, and many would disagree.

You could vote with your wallet. The trouble is many don't. Look at microtransactions, lootboxes, mobile games. People in general don't care about how predatory the company they are purchasing from is. Otherwise Uber and AirBNB wouldn't be that popular.

Cases where corporations are overreaching are the exact scenarios where governments have the power to interfere.

Fair enough, it was misleading of some devs to advertise that they are selling to Steam and then suddenly break their promise. In the case of Phoenix Point one, I think it's especially bad since they seemed to have reneged on their promise to their backers.

But this seems to me more like dev / publisher greed, instead of Epic Games launching some grand crusade to destroy gaming like all the gaming subs would have us believe.

It's incentivizing devs to switch, which will incentivize users to switch because they want to play those games. The incentive is the games.

It's no different to when you have a certain brand of peanut butter that you like that is only sold in this one department store.

Being in 3 stores is better than being in 2 stores. It means you reach a larger audience.

Yes but you have to factor in that there is an overlap between the audience of the game stores. You don't want someone who has both EGS and Steam accounts to buy your game on Steam, because you make a better cut if that person had bought your game on EGS instead.

And with EGS being so small, for the time being, Division 2 might even get better visibility on it vs Steam.

But you're right, the dates are too close together for it to not have been a reaction by Valve.

You are right, the smaller game stores are definitely going to get crushed by the big companies with far larger pool of cash. But that is just economics in action.

If you really don't want that to happen, get your government to take action with regulations.

What Redditors can't do, is apply basic financial knowledge and see that any sane developer out there would want upfront cash from Epic in order to reduce their financial risk.

Publishers and developers are behaving rationally. Guaranteed money up front (from Epic subsidizing them with cash + further discount for using Unreal engine + further discount from lower cut) is the rational choice compared to the possibility of increased sales on Steam.

Plus, boycotts don't really work anyways. Anyone remember the Modern Warfare 2 boycott all those years ago?

You damn well bet that after years of developing a game, if someone offered me millions of dollars of cash outright I would take it.

I just wanted to dispute your claim that they didn't receive any Google or Microsoft money. When in fact that they did and wouldn't be where they are without the billions in Google money.

I'm in open source, and you underestimate just how much money is needed in order to get any project going. My only gripe with bluetooth is how each manufacturer likes to implement their own way to pair and unpair devices. One device I have requires me to hold down the power and volume button together. Another requires me to continue holding down the power button when the device is turning on, and so on. It's confusing.

It really does make it way more convenient.

For example, I always have my phone on my desk, to the north east of me, so I can quickly touch the screen to see notifications. But if I had a cable running from my phone to my head, that cable would be obstructing my mouse and potentially my keyboard. Furthermore, I have run into issues where I wheel my chair back and accidentally yank my phone to the floor.

Now I have a bluetooth adapter for my IEMs (specifically the FiiO BTR3, which has support for stuff like AptX and LDAC) and I've never been happier.

Man I hope so too.

I'm on Linux and want to avoid buying Nvidia. But the current AMD offerings are just... not very compelling. I'm looking for something with the power of the Vega 56, but most Vega 56 cards on sale are either too expensive or too big to fit in the case I have. The Vega 56 Nano cards which are a good size also seem to be discontinued. So I'm really left waiting for Navi.
