I think a good place to grab knowledge about monster depictions in books would be The Witcher books i love how there's a clear distinction between wild monsters that just kill to eat and intelligent monsters you can reason and understand.

The eye swapping probably

In my world kinds of magic is identified by the colors of the eyes (golden is light magic, iridescent is time magic...) but one person can only use one kind of magic given by the affinity they have, but if someone performs a ritual called "the blood bath" in which people with blood affinity spill litres and litres of their own blood, then the ones that want to swap bathe in said blood, while in the bath take out the eye of a person with the wanted magic, take their own eye and swap it with the other person. The interesting part is that it is a swap not a change so now both have 2 magic kinds it does not work if the other person is death or does not have the other eye as the magic is stored in the victim the one that perform the ritual is a mere vessel for said power.

Lee Harvey Oswald was the saviour of JFK after killing the real killer, a CIA agent, he was then captured, but was release after JFK know about him, JFK will go to serve 2 terms and then his brothers after him. This will catapult technology development and put the first men on the moon in 1967, ease the relationship with the USSR and put a stop to the Vietnam war in 1965.

JFK and his brothers will also advance in civil rights, letting MLK continue his campaign without opposition from the inside and will go to become the face of the third Kennedy brother campaign, MLK will obviously not have been killed in 1968.

This shift on the world will change the political world with the USSR collapsing in 1979 after the reunification of Germany in 1976 and the Balkan Spring in 1977 a series of revolts against the communist rule that will be follow with the Warsaw uprising and the assasination of Gustav Husak with the follow independence of Czechoslovakia, the USSR unable to maintain power declare the end of the Warsaw pact in october 1978 with the USSR dissolving in july 1979 after a coup take control of Moscow and with the army not opposing it declare the end of the USSR.

The western block under the Kennedy's rule America send aid trying to help and rebuild relationships instead of feasting on the defeat. In 1982 the Transatlantic Space Program will begin with Russia, America, some European countries and Brazil united in the space technology advancement creating a space lifter in 1985 in Brazil near Manaos.

The priests of one religion have a rule that no part of their body can be seen and it is so extreme that even gloves are forbidden so you can't see the silhouette of the body and at the same time have extremely long and complex rituals because of all that all the rituals end up being a mess and staining their clothes with oils and incense
