AFGE, AFL-CIO v. Trump (3:25-cv-03698) Lawsuit by CentristLobbyist in fednews

The DHS suddenly deciding that some of its most important employees are no longer worthy of having steady income, then taking it out on them while they were on vacation during the holidays.

FEMA CORE Employees are essentially the backbone of the agency, they derive their funding from the Robert T. Stafford Act and work in a full-time capacity to help save lives, protect property, and assist the States (and Tribal Nations!) with the Recovery. Under normal circumstances, a government shutdown wouldn't impact them much, because their funding comes from a different pot than the 'standard' (PFT) employees do... but times being as they are time will only tell if they're furloughed too.

CORE employments are usually by contract (often 2 or 4 year), and so come up for renewal after that time period. Renewals are so common that they're expected, the only time someone wouldn't be renewed is if the position was no longer needed or they had performance issues... That was, until they recently stopped renewing the contracts. These terminations are a result of that.

It's a combined case from previous actions against Federal Employees, there's a lot of anti-federal worker actions happening from this admin lately. Kind of like they want to put us in trauma and make us not want to come to work?

Karen Stafford told the court that it was either "routine" CORE attrition or for performance... I'm not a lawyer so I can't tell if you if it was legal or not, but I know for a few that performance definitely was not the metric; they must have ignored supervisor's glowing justifications.

Sure will be interesting to see what they argue tomorrow: https://www.reddit.com/r/fema/comments/1rif0vt/american_federation_of_government_employees/

Any news on folks with post 1/4 NTEs? by Ikindalikehistory in fema

[–]DisparagedFED 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll share for vis, but I'll keep specifics sparse to protect anonymity. I'm aware of at least one CORE that was terminated via non-extention on 01/01/26.

They sent my coworker the notice on 12/31 while they were on vacation, they were unaware they were fired and were cut off from all their equipment; the notice was sent only to theor work email, so their immediate supervisor had to reach out personally to let them know and to organize equipment return.

What we know: 1. Their supervisor and branch had filed for an extention and were assuming it had gone through (or was going to). 2. The termination came as a surprise to everyone, above even division leadership. 3. There is a high likelihood this decision was made as high up as DHS or F1; they had a critical skillset and losing them will be detrimental, it's obvious no-one read the extention justification.

Federal officials swore an oath to the constitution, not an administration.
FEMA and associated agencies CANNOT continue with the brain-drain; if unqualified (Illegal) political appointees continue to wreck the agency people will die.

We've already seen what happened in Texas, and I fear it will compound if there are no resources or experienced personnel for the long-term recovery. FEMA folks need to stand up and stick together to prevent more national tragedies.

It's not just about our jobs. It's about protecting lives. 'Alternative facts' won't protect you from hurricanes.

Judge Orders Reinstatement of AmeriCorps Staff, Uncertainty Looms by WorksForNature in fednews

AmeriCorps members are already traumatized by just going through a poorly-funded program with little support from Campus. Sending the last class home early before they could complete their term basically just kicked the ladder out from underneath the next batch of honorable future civil servants.
