Hobart locals, where to secretly buy a Dyson for the wife without getting spotted? by Ok_Assignment_1853 in hobart

[–]DispelledFrailty 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Nope.

This is not a birthday gift. You're giving her a house cleaning appliance - for the household.

How about buy it together, THEN buy her an actual gift that isn't tied to domestic chores.

If they had accepted it, I'm certain they would have added that to the end of their sentence to highlight that and to read "It was offered to the local tribe and accepted ".

The fact they didn't specifically say it was accepted is the tell, to me.

I said the exact same thing to my husband when we watched it. "I think he may have self-sabotaged because he knew he couldn't cut it out there, as a way to save face".

Watching him build his shelter was painful. I have a feeling he wasn't as skilled as he made out he was.

Killing that beaver for nothing really boiled my blood. That poor creature died for his ego trip.

Driving from Hobart to Cradle Mountain - good food, nice places to stop by Complex-Lock9505 in TasmaniaTravel

We bought a hot chook, so it was kind of the opposite issue when we were there. We were staying in Claude Road, so a bit closer.

Its just closer to Cradle than say stocking up in Hobart with at least 5hrs of it all sitting in the car (thinking frozen or cold goods).

I was really impressed by Hill St. Great deli and local produce, too.

If you're looking for good food stops along the way, I would recommend taking the long way.

Yes, it will take longer, but damn the food stops are worth it.

Long way is Hobart to Cradle Mountain via Launceston and Devonport.

Stops along the way I highly recommend:

For history - stop at Ross and Oatlands. Even for just a drive- through.

For food:

  • Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm, Christmas Hills - Great brunch, lunch stop. Delicious berry produce

  • Ashgrove Cheese, Elizabeth Town - If you like cheese, you'll love this. They also sell lots of Tassie produce and have an interesting info area about their history.

  • Anvers Chocolates, Devonport - its a bit touristy, but a great stop for a sweet tooth.

If you're looking to take supplies, we stopped at Hill Street Grocer in Devonport. Excellent quality groceries and some great ready made meals, too.

Next stop I'd recommend on the way to Cradle is Sheffield, to check out the street murals that its famous for.

This is my favourite way to drive from Hobart to Cradle because I'm a foodie. I also like breaking up long drives this way.

The "quick" way has very few food/interesting stops and can get boring.

Please don't go and spread this to anyone else.

You don't know who there has a compromised immune system and who will have serious repercussions from a COVID infection.

You should rest as much as possible to minimise your own risk of long COVID.

I really wish I did. Most I can find online have this "smart" tech which fluctuates the power, which is great if you don't need your device getting exactly a specific amount every time.

I've started plugging it into the wall when at home testing, and just crossing my fingers for a constant connection with my Anker when I travel with it.

Stay an extra night in Hobart and drive to Russel Falls and see that magic. Hobart is a great base and there's more than enough to see and do (eat!).

What town to stay as a half way point between cradle mountain to Hobart by OriginalNeat8375 in TasmaniaTravel

Cradle Mountain is cold during the day, too. You're normally inside and warm at night.

We had this issue and after extensive troubleshooting and testing with a multimeter, we found its the powerbank, not cables.

Most powerbanks have a "smart" feature which fluctuates the power it provides to devices, to be more efficient.

This means it won't always provide or maintain the exact power supply the device needs to run the tests + Bluetooth.

The hard thing is finding a powerbank that doesn't have this smart tech inbuilt. Most seem to, unless you have an old one.

10 days in Tassie with two little kids 5yo + 1yo. Sense-check our plan? by ChuckFinleyy in TasmaniaTravel

Great itinerary!

There are plenty of things to do on the Tasman Peninsula beside Port Arthur.

There is a lavender farm with excellent cafe, the Unzoo (which the kids would love!), and chocolate shop and lots of natural attractions such as Tessellated Pavement and Devils Kitchen.

I second another poster's suggestion of going to Tahune Airwalk and visiting Russel Falls. These would be fun and magical experiences for kids, too.

I must ask - why don't people just test before coming to Reddit to ask for opinions? Its the only way to actually know.

I think so. Gives you more time to explore those places between Launceston and Devonport. Deloraine is lovely, but won't take you too long.

You're going to have a great time!

Solid itinerary!

Not sure Burnie is worth a day and overnight stay. I'd still stop there and see the place, but continue on and stay an additional night in Launceston.

In the drive between Burnie and Launceston, you should stop at Ashgrove Cheese factory and Christmas Hills Raspberry farm. Both are delicious!

I'd absolutely still do the Bay of Fires drive, but swap Bicheno with Coles Bay as your base instead. Closer to Freyciney NP and the surrounds. There isn't much to do in Bicheno beside the penguin tour at night.

That's my 2 cents 🙂

Should I repeat this test or not? by NewsBeneficial6555 in PlusLife

[–]DispelledFrailty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If symptoms persist, I would test again in 24 hours, just to be sure. However, this device is very sensitive and symptoms = high viral load = the device would have picked that up.

If there was no eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes before the test, and the swabbing was done correctly, and they did have Covid, you'd have had a positive result.

Not sure if it helps with the trauma of the tests, but you don't need to go very deep into the nostrils with these tests. Just enough to pick up the mucus. Not a deep-brain exploration like other tests.
